Re: MachetesyMiel:Racism in Santiago.

Very interesting to read first-hand accounts although sadly the findings are unsurprising. Thanks for posting.

Re: Santiago in the top 25 best cities in the world to live

Yeah, the digital security one called my attention too. I thought it was referring to online banking fraud... that sort of thing... in which case it made sense to me that Santiago came above many other places given that a vast majority of the population hardly uses banks at all, much less internet b...

Santiago in the top 25 best cities in the world to live

Sooo.... this popped up on my social media newsfeed just now. Would love to hear what people think! The article is only in Spanish but if you are really interested and want to read the report, that is in English. http://www.24horas.cl/internacional/santiago-se-ubica-dentro-de-los-25-mejores-lugares-...

Re: Thousands of Brits on benefits across EU

Re: Petrified about the language barrier

I think it's still really useful to learn as much as you can before you get here. Whether your Spanish is neutral or 100% Chilean, it is true that there is a contingent of people who just do not understand a word you say once they realise you are foreign. This happens to everyone! I am half Argentin...

Re: Requirements for matrionio civil?

Yeah that was all they asked for in Ñuñoa in 2006. Was probably the easiest process I've ever gone through in Chile, some days just getting my groceries, getting through the checkout and getting out the car park at jumbo alive / without commiting mass murder is far more difficult. Off topic rant kla...

Re: Have you see people use double strollers?

I have noticed the odd one. I would definitely go with as compact as possible though. I find sidewalks in Santiago mostly OK... inconvenient in some places where they aren't set up for strollers and wheelchair users... Shops and cafes tend to be crampt / piled to the rafters with boxes and c**p... n...

Re: UK Passport Photos

Reporting back for future ref. Despite all the kind suggestions I didn't quite make it to Providencia... I found a place in Ñuñoa that does all different kinds of photos for passports, visas... I took along the printed guidelines which specify photo standards (2 pages!) but the old guy there already...

Re: Internet vendors without company email addresses

I have a complementary health insurance, one of those ones you take out directly for a particular clinic usually, and the person who sold me that uses g-mail as well for her e-mail address. That doesn't mean you won't get scammed but it does happen here, I get the impression that people don't see us...
