Re: truck driver/ heavy equipment operators

My understanding is that in order to obtain a commercial drivers license in Chile, one would have to of possessed a non commercial license for two years. Additionally you would have to graduate from an accredited Chilean commercial driving school, and possibly, in the case of operating articulated v...

Re: The mayor of Quilpue has given the go ahead to kilstreet

What a tragic situation. From what I have read, there have been only three known cases of unvaccinated humans surviving rabies after the disease has manifested itself. Also the difficulty of testing for the disease, which is not present in the blood, makes it unlikely that stray dogs will be tested....

If I'm not mistaken, the test for rabies in animals is by brain biopsy, conducted postmortem.

Re: Buying a car and selling it a year later

I've been wondering something else as well, lately, regarding a cash purchase of a used car. Presuming you lug $10,000 in strapped greenbacks down to Chile, what exactly do you do with money while you are shopping for a car? Do you strap it around yourself every day, or do you trust the room safe at...

Re: Metrogas and heat

Up here in the northeast, gas is delivered to the customer and metered in 100 cubic foot units. The gas is sold to the customer in therms which equals 100,000 btu's. The gas utility maintains calorimeters to accurately measure the amount of heat energy in the gas and that is what the conversion fact...

Re: Metrogas and heat

There are a lot of factors that can effect natural gas quality. Gas from different gas fields will have different caloric values. Pipeline operators will strip out heavy hydrocarbons from the gas stream, which tend to burn hotter. They also try to remove as much moisture from the gas in order to pro...

Re: Snow Chains

I switched to cable chains many years ago, for large trucks and passenger cars alike. They are much easier to put on, and weigh only a fraction of standard chains. For some reason every place I find them on the Internet, it always states for off road use. Are they not legal on roadways in Chile?

Fly tying materials

Hi folks, I've been reading this forum for a couple years now. I greatly appreciate the practical and realistic advice that I have found on this site. Can someone tell me if it is possible to bring fly tying materials (feathers etc) into Chile for an extended holiday? Would it just be to much of a h...
