Re: Worth Getting Citizenship?

When I was going through the nightmare of renewing my PR last year, which resulted in my having to go to Talca to avoid sleeping on the street outside the PDI place in Santiago, the PDI man asked why I didnt just get citizenship and done with to avoid any further nightmares in 5 years time. You had...

Worth Getting Citizenship?

I have been reading through old threads on this forum and elsewhere, and thought I'd have a go at summing this up. Reasons to do it 1. There may be unknown benefits in the future to being a citizen that don't exist today; you may be more secure in the country. 2. You can, as a citizen, leave for ove...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

The number of 41 electric cars sold is the number for January and February 2019 (for those 2 months). The total number reached so far all time for Chile is in the hundreds..maybe about 300.

Re: The Chile Eclipses Thread

I saw the 1999 eclipse under clouds. Even under clouds, I got to see a ring of light all around the horizon and the shadow of the moon racing across the land at a mile per second or so. I think it's worth going up to high ground, to get these effects. Of course, the down side of that is that you wil...

Re: The Chile Eclipses Thread

The odds of seeing the 2019 total solar eclipse with a clear sky is about 60%, but for the 2020 one it is only about 50%. That's assuming some mobility on the day but you could even bump it up 5% by planning super carefully and closely monitoring forecasts. If you go to both of them, you'll have an ...

Re: The Chile Eclipses Thread

On Saturday I had a look for hotels for the July 2nd eclipse in La Serena, Coquimbo, Valle Elqui (so trying to book 4 months in advance) and quickly found that most hotels are already sold out or very expensive. I did a search on booking.com for La Serena for June 29th-July 3rd and it came up with 3...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

From an environmental perspective, what's needed is less gas and diesel cars. Doesn't really matter whether that's replacing gas/diesel with electric, or more ride sharing or more public transport. Either achieves similar results from a CO2 and pollution reduction perspective. Ride sharing and publi...

Re: China Growth Has Stopped

"I’m in Beijing this week, and the mood is surprisingly positive. Everyone must have had a good break over the Chinese New Year holiday, as doom and gloom have given way to optimism. On Monday the Chinese stockmarket had one of its strongest one-day rallies ever, gaining 5.6%." Source: Simon Baptist...

Re: Looking for the best City for my Family

Thanks for this. One thing that confuses me still - and I'm easily confused about Chilean politics due to a lack of knowledge on the subject - is that the link you provided suggests that this change was implement before Pinera won, is it more of a legacy of the Bachelet era? Would a left wing govern...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

Even if Tesla did kill this one person, the gas and diesel cars have killed millions in air pollution and climate change.

Perhaps they can decide a clever piece of software added to the vehicles later that detects an abnormal situation and causes the handles to pop out.

Re: Looking for the best City for my Family

It says the cost of education increased 13% in 2018, in that one year, and 23.8% in Santiago. Looks high. Does that look correct. Why would that happen?
