Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

Never mind, the stupid idea that there is a government managed collective retirement fund that is for "solidarity" that is not going to be raided to buy political favors and be a general slush fund. Never has happened. They are not proposing retirement savings. They are proposing a new tax on emplo...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

The No + AFP thing blew up, like the stupid left blows up every none-issue, back a year or two ago when it was revealed that some government employees that were retiring, and had stayed in the old pension system structure, were going to retire with like 10 million pesos a month in retirement paymen...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

Please realize that these proposals you seem to all take so seriously are election promises. I already mentioned Bachelet's lame 20-20-20 hospital program (parts of which were initiated by Piñera btw) And perhaps that is why Chileans base their voting choice on personalities, rather than on program...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

I also believe that siding with candidates only because of the "progre" questions like gay rights is a bad choice. I'm all for the equal rights for everybody, including gay marriage, but a poorly managed economy will hurt much more people than a temporary lack of some progressive policy and it coul...

Re: A Near Miss

I believe this part is the most relevant: La reforma disminuye los altos costos judiciales que implicaba la antigua normativa, así como la complejidad de una larga litigación en tribunales, cuestiones que, en la práctica, desincentivaban el actuar de los consumidores en su eventual reclamo contra in...

Re: A Near Miss

And unlike criminal trials, in these tribunals there is no presumption of innocence, nor does the state provide legal assistance. I believe any fines would be a 'civil penalty' by a 'regulatory agency'. A civil penalty or civil fine is a financial penalty imposed by a government agency as restituti...

Re: A Near Miss

Re: today's rant...

I was definitely being facetious. I think healthcare and the carabineros are a couple things Chile has gotten right. That video was one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a while. And, to read that a jury let the cop off scott free is just puzzling beyond belief. ' footage ...(was) released...

Re: today's rant...

I get the clean uniform and correct manner but don't understand the makeup and high heels part. Who does it benefit besides chiropractors, big pharma pain meds, and "beauty" corporations. I thought Chilean women had realized a sort of equality with their female president, but it seems that they are...

Re: today's rant...

Yes ,chile does continue to amaze... Re the very high heels - yes they are very bad for the health and, IMO, not very comfortable... Re the carabineras - I actually admire them for being turned "impeccable" It makes me think they take pride in their work. Latam girls as well.... (although they can ...

Re: New law on keeping pets

Pretty modest and reasonable proposals IMHO. As I said, it seems that you are looking at a revised edition. There are enough articles to indicate that the original had serious problems, and was not what you are describing as 'pretty modest and reasonable proposals'. Ministerio detalló los artículos...

Re: New law on keeping pets

Not getting at people genuinely concerned with animal welfare, but thats not what the proposal says. The intention was to limit the number of pets per house of 100 m2 or less in built-up areas to prevent situations of the type that Donnybrook described previously. Not applicable to isolated propert...
