Re: Annual Rental contract - 3 month Adjustment by IPC?

I had a three month IPC adjustment on my apartment rental in Santiago. The other people I have talked to do as well. Like others are saying the situation is probably different in the south, so perhaps you should ask around Pucón and see what others do.

Re: How rich are Americans? Not very.

The Millennial story I am not buying. They are always couched in terms of these shiny happy recently graduated people. However, this quote does capture the problem to some extent. They got a boost by entering the work force right in the middle of a recovery, but have not been around sufficiently lo...

Re: How rich are Americans? Not very.

There may be a silver lining to the dark cloud that was (is, really) the recession: Millennials are saving money.

Re: Bachelet admits she created a mess

The problem they are facing right now, for the first time in 30+ years, the contrast between money in their pocket under a center right government and no money in their pocket under a center left government, is really stark and obvious. This is the case in point and it is hammered even further home...

Re: Property Values?

I also thought Id change my screen name as soon I will no longer be el lechero, my cows are getting sold and going to other farms, dairy farming in Chile is not all it is made out to be, but I still love it here, just looking for new challenges and opportunities now. I'd be very interested in readi...

Re: I'm bored of living here

As for this 'honesty' that is being mentioned by some: Do you go around telling your older friends and relatives how much older and fatter they are looking lately? Now that is something that could possibly cause a drop in active forum members, considering the sheer amount of ol' rotten crotch...

Re: Greetings to all

Just so long as the forum doesn't turn into any one of the myriad of Facebook groups meant for foreigners living in Chile but which are overrun by Chileans who silence via criticism any sort of honest discussion about living in the country.

Re: Chile Peso 2015-2016, 700 here we come

The Diario Financiero has a great article today that sums up the woes in the mining sector here . En 12 meses cayó en 10 mil los empleados por la minería. De acuerdo al Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas (INE), si en el trimestre móvil junio-agosto de 2014 este sector empleaba a 233 mil personas, pa...

Re: Chile Peso 2015-2016, 700 here we come

So, that is what got me thinking about that story about how the Chilean stock exchanges function. If just the latency in internet connections and exchanges could cause that sort of problem in the U.S., how does a 20 min leg between exchanges in Chile not get exploited with just a super primitive pi...

Re: Declaring overdue F29 monthly payments

I honestly doubt it. The government paid to have a good translation of the driving test materials and you think they'd get the great idea to have a "New Arrivals Guide to Taxes in Chile" minibook made (in Spanish and English) but apparently not. Maybe they will get around to it when they update thei...

Re: Declaring overdue F29 monthly payments

I think hiring an accountant is worth it considering how reasonably priced they are here. However, I would suggest that new arrivals who are going the boleta route to read this SII publication to get a grasp of the lingo.
