Re: Chile's lower house votes to decriminalizing marijuana

Here is Uruguay many folk say it is now more restrictive than before as you have to register with the government and the police then have the right to enter your home and check you are not exceeding the number of plants you can have. You have to be a citizen or have your permanent cedula and the pla...

Re: Expats or simply immigrants?

When i left the UK to go to work in Canada my status was called "Landed Immigrant" but I still felt I was English. When I moved to Uruguay I became a resident there.

I have never used the word "expat". to describe myself. Now when people ask where I am from, I am not really sure.

Although Mujica is not universally popular here, he certainly is a character. Two recent stories in the paper have him picking up a hitchhiker and this one which I am not sure if it is really true.

I don't know why but I have never found ginger ale in Uruguay. I mostly had a shandy with 7 up in England and do that here too. My latest discovery from Uruguayan friends is Malta, It is the brew used to make beer before it is fermented so is non alcoholic and a little sweet but does form a head lik...

Not just TB but also listeria, E. coli and salmonella, also the cheese made from it. I used to keep goats and drank the milk raw but I knew exactly how it was handled and stored.

Re: TIPPING AND GIVING - supermarket, carpark, beggars

When I arrived in Chile from Toronto with my dog, I was changing airlines to go on to Montevideo. I had two big suitcases, a carry on and a dog in a medium sized crate. Because I was changing airlines, I had to go through Customs with it all and then I wanted to go outside with the dog before rechec...

I think you also need to think about the value of any pensions you may get. Although many folk feel there won't be one when they retire, I live quite well on the pensions I have coming from Canada and the US. Will a pension from Chile be as generous? Due to my income in Canada over the years , i als...

Another thought but probably expensive, is to use a pet shipping company who deal with everything for you. An example is
Worldcare Pet Transportation.
