Re: The State of the States

I find it humorous to see read the arguments about socialism vs unrestrained capitalism. Both are BS systems of economics that both lead to the accumulation of wealth into the hands of the elite and create three social classes, the slaving poor with their bread and circuses(and ignorance towards th...

~ The question is: are you ready to jump yet? http://sovereign-investor.com/files/2012/07/expat.gif This graph is kind of misleading. It represents number of Americans who renounced U.S. citizenship in these years, not total number of expatriates. Someone who is still an American citizen but lives ...

Re: R.I.P. U.S.A.

Obama's initiative shouldn't be supported. I think it is ridiculous to force every American to pay money every month to support overpriced medical care. Why can other countries provide health care at a lower price than the US? Let me throw in dental care costs into this discussion. This one is even...

Re: Don't leave your Napoleon behind

but as chileans are cheap and buy cheap steel, a small 1ft one would do the job! I have the largest, ahem, Napoleón that I could buy in Natales, about 700 cm long, and it was still not enough to cut the hardened 6mm diametre steel on a padlock I encountered not long ago. Soft steel as you might fin...

Re: ACA refugees?

Keeping that U.S. passport in my safe is getting harder by the day. I am starting to worry the floor supports will give out under the weight of it. Indeed, for more and more American expats, the passport (citizenship) has become a serious liability rather than cherished privilege. The good news is ...

It's a misnomer to call 'Obamacare'/ACA socialized healthcare. The proper name should be fascisized healthcare. Fascism with socialism are siblings but not identical twins.

Re: ACA refugees?

Am I missing something? :?: Why would they come to Chile? If you work, you are required to pay a certain percent of your salary towards healthcare every month. As in, you are forced to have health coverage. Your options are the public/state FONASA or one of the private ISAPRE insurance company. Tha...

Re: ACA refugees?

Excerpt from today's Daily Dose : ... there's an "out" that doesn't involve leaving the country (although, let's face facts here, that might not be a bad option either). You see, if you opt out of ObamaCare and choose no Nanny State insurance at all, you're supposed to pay a fine to the IRS. But Co...

Re: Ingredients for Mexican food?

The address where you can download their catalog is chilepepperinstituteDOTorg They ship internationally but due to high shipping costs to Latin America, a better method is to order seeds to a U.S. based address and bring them yourself to Chile or have someone coming from the U.S. to visit Chile br...

Rocotos come up in the same range on the scoville unit scale for heat as habañeros and scotch bonnets, according to this wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoville_scale They sell them all over La Vega. Maybe a better bet? And ají amarillo is fairly mild, says my tongue. Pickled, I can e...

Re: What Small Business to Start?

First I am in my late 50. I would need to start a small business in Chile to live there. Just to start let's say I need to earn $40,000 a year. In the states I own two small businesses, my wife an I run both, no employees. They are our only income. The following are business I could try, things I ha...
