Re: Visas

Hi, Thanks for replying. 1. In order to apply we should have work offer letter, Does this offer must be related to the field of our studies or any job offer is acceptable? My thoughts (I'm no expert) are that a work visa just needs a work contract. It shouldn't need a degree or other certificate. A...

Re: Opening A Bank Account

Look into the cuenta corriente for extranjeros at Scotiabank. They don't give you any credit but you get a debit card, online banking, and surely higher limits than the cuenta RUT

Re: Opening A Bank Account

Ok, as per my previous post, the Plan B was to go to BancoEstado for their "chequera electrónica" (technically it's a "cuenta vista"). We went last week, brought a fat heap of boletas along with forms F29 and F22 — everything they needed for "evaluación según la política de Crediticia del Banco". T...

Re: Visas

I know they recently (within the last year or so) changed the law so that you can no longer apply for your first resident visa from in Chile. You can enter on a tourist visa but you will have to apply for residency from a Chilean consulate or embassy in the UK. They might make an exception for marri...

Re: Opening A Bank Account

Re: Problem with ATM Card

The BE limit is 800k (as far as I know) but only because the machine can only spit out 40 bills at a time. That's why you think the limit is now 400k when the machine only spits out 10k bills. I always withdraw the max (generally 600-640k because my US limit is 1k USD). If the ATM tells me the amoun...

Re: Guide to validating education for a driving license

Did they give your route options to choose from for the driving test? Drive whichever you think is más fácil a couple of times para familiarize yourself with all the traffic signs. In my case it was very easy. When the examiner got in my car he didn't put on the safety belt automatically so I had t...

Re: Guide to validating education for a driving license

I just took the education test a few days ago and let me encourage anyone who can read a children's book in Spanish and has a decent dose of logical reasoning to take the test now. Stop fretting and take it. The reading part was what I would consider 4th or 5th grade level. The math was math (you ne...

Re: Paying for property/moving funds into Chile

Let me insert that it's at BanChile, not Banco de Chile. They often have offices inside the Banco de Chile locations (or Banco Edwards locations) but they are a separate entity. And yes, you want Fondos Mutuos. That's how I brought large amounts of money to purchase my home. I gave them a ton of pap...

Re: Waiting for permanencia response - updates?

So I logged on to post my question and it goes hand in hand with this one. I applied for my definitiva in February. In April I received the letter with instructions for paying. I also paid in April. I am still waiting for the application to be processed and either rejected or hopefully approved. The...
