Re: My home marked by scouts for thieves.

Sorry about my bad spelling lately. I was already a mess because a friend of the family was shot to death during a home invasion (not in Chile) last weekend. Sorry to hear that :( Crime is one of the reasons I'm typing this from Europe and not from South Africa. Some other inexpensive things you ca...

Re: My home marked by scouts for thieves.

They would be more likely to break in to see the snakes lol, unlikely. If this can work in SA (where the burglars are not stopped by much) it can work in Chile. Another option is to use "Snake Breeder" or something. Create your own wording to suit the situation. And if venemous snakes aren't common...

Re: My home marked by scouts for thieves.

Many folks (in South Africa) spend thousands on armed response, burglar alarms, electric perimeter fences etc. I spent about $20, once off. I learned a good trick from a friend of mine... I had 2 signs made up and both said "BEWARE OF SNAKES" and with a large black & white picture of a snake below. ...

Re: Before you move to Chile: Stages of Culture Shock

I thought all the crime bosses in N. America had to be either descendants of congressmen, presidents, or bankers; then also, perhaps it is the other way around (e.g. Kennedy or a Bush). Gotti, Gambino, Mangano, Corozzo, D'Amico, Corozzo, Martorano, Genovese, .... They aren't Fiat dealerships. When ...

Re: "News changes fast"...

Hmmm, I don't know if it's just weird, incompitent, sensationalist tactics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensationalism the content and subject matter typically doesn't affect the lives of the masses and doesn't affect society, and instead is broadcast and printed to attract viewers and readers. or p...

R.I.P E.U./euro - I don't think so

I found this Gem on the BBC site a few days ago... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/hardtalk/9725121.stm BBC Interviews Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman BBC: "If you were advising the Greek government what would you say to them?" Krugman: "Aah, well I've actually had conversations wit...

Re: ¡Saludos de Uruguay!

Good insightful post Uruguayo, also janway. Just to clarify my original post, Uruguay certainly has its good points, but in the five years I have lived here, I have seen the quality of life here decline, perhaps not as drastically as Argentina has, but certainly in a similar direction, for example: ...

Re: Internship in Content Mgmt., Online Mkt. and Social Medi

Yeah, I've never been crazy about the lack of laws surrounding Internships. There's way too much room for abuse. In Italy they refer to this as "Stage" Companies basically take on interns for 6 months, or longer. Basically the maximum amount of time that someone is willing to work for free. Eventual...

Re: World's 10 most loved cities: #3 Santiago

Ja, they come out with a Top 10 Cities list every 2 weeks or so... I don't think I've ever read a list that doesn't appear written by a romantic wearing rose tinted glasses traveling from the comfort of his/her armchair and through the Internet connection. There was a lull but right now [Jordan] is ...

Re: ¡Saludos de Uruguay!

I'm Interested to hear more about this... Chile is definitely an interesting option for us if things keep accelerating along their current Argentine trajectory here in Uruguay. Chile and Uruguay are the only 2 countries in South America where I would consider emigrating. Uruguay receives a lot of po...

Re: Need romance advice. Love a Chilean, she thinks I won't

If you can take a moment to understand one of the most basic rules of the universe you'll get a lot more clarity... "It's human nature to want what you can't have." (Economies around the world are driven by this - supply and demand) And this feeling is directly proportional to the amount of obstacle...
