Re: Worth Getting Citizenship?

I renewed mine late in December for an expiry the first days of February. You can now, theoretically, get an appointment for the PDI letter step in Santiago but you have to watch the website for appointments with the concentration usually demanded of playing Whack-a-Mole. Appointments are also avail...

Re: Sugary food in chile

I guess the "way mustard should taste" depends on what you are familiar with - and you can, as you say, get the one you like.. Some would prefer Coleman's. The Financial Times wasn't really writing about specific food but the labelling. Although I originally mocked those black labels, I now find the...

Re: Worth Getting Citizenship?

Does anyone know if having three passports from three different countries is possible or even legally permitted? I have two others now, don't really need the Chileno passport which would be the third but Chile is my principal country of residence now. I'm concerned, as others here have pointed out,...

Re: Daylight Saving Time

I guess I have a smart meter. They changed out the old one about a year ago. Now it is read remotely. I liked the guy who read the meter every month and we formally shook hands and wished each other well at the last reading he did. I didn't pay anything for it but I suppose we will all pay for them ...

Re: Daylight Saving Time

It does make a difference if you talk to family members who live in another time zone. Sometimes it is 5 hours difference, sometimes 4 when their clocks change and then the much looked forward to 3 hours when our clocks change. It is the difference between staying up past the time you want to go to ...

Re: Correos Chile is horrible!

I don't order things from abroad so no personal experience. I do post things TO other countries and it has always worked perfectly with Correos. But ordering things from abroad can involve customs and you have to know how things work, when you are going to have to pay duty and how much, what isn't a...

Re: Looking for the best City for my Family

I lived in Viña for 6 years and would not recommend it. Things may have changed but it was more expensive than Santiago then. House market was smaller so inflated and food often had an extra cost due to "transport". Rents are high unless you are willing to move out in January and February so the own...

Re: Looking for a doctor specializing in multiple sclerosis

It is true about the doctors being off on holiday this month. I always think the saying should be "sobreviví febrero" not "sobreviví agosto"!

Re: Looking for a doctor specializing in multiple sclerosis

I have a friend whose husband has MS. He sees Doctor Barahona in the Clinica Alemana in Santiago. Any good neurologist should be able to determine if it is MS or not.

Re: Expat leaving debts in Chile

Regarding credit offers, it is still impossible for this permanent resident to get a Cuenta Corriente or a Chile credit card This is what is strange, that you can't get one but someone on a temporary visa did. I know some foreigners working here are able to get an account because the company they w...

Re: Expat leaving debts in Chile

For years I have watched perfectly decent friends in Argentina not pay the full amount of tax that they owe because "the government will just steal it anyway". As evil as you may consider banks to be, it is the person taking on more debt than they can handle who is ultimately to blame. A choice was ...
