Re: Chilean private schools compared to good US public schools

I am not sure what a jock culture is. The three schools have very complete sports activities but I am not sure if that is what you want to avoid. You might consider Santiago College to your list. The problem will be finding places in any of them. Two of us on here educated our children at the Grange...

Re: chaos in PDI

I did it in Viña del Mar. You can do the Registro Civil renewal process there too but have to say what municipality you wan them to send it to to pick up. I chose to do that stage in Santiago with an appointment. I made the appointment before I went to PDI as their certificate lasts 30 days and the ...

Re: New Guy From Florida

I don't know the possibilities in the south but imagine the construction "window" might be short because of the weather. There are foreigners here (speaking of Santiago because it is what I know) who have a good business in construction but they are mostly not building from scratch. They are repairi...

Re: USD bank account

You can have a dollar account in Itau as well. The exchange can sometimes be less favourable than going to an exchange place but if you factor in safety - not walking around with wads of cash in any currency - then it isn't much of a difference really. They usually ask you for the source of the doll...

Re: Traveling South America using only cedula de identidad?

Usually passport trumps ID document if you need a visa. When Argentina had the reciprocity fee for US citizens some were hopeful they could enter Argentina on their Chilean ID but it was not allowed.

Re: chile's migration crisis

There is some rather stange hostility to jews in the south. My wife and i were having dinner one night with this couple we had just met. Out of the blue the husband just goes off on this nasty anti-semtic rant. Probably one of the worse i have ever heard in person. His wife turns to him (her family...

Re: Santiago Vehicle Restrictions 2018

I had not noticed the fact that it only applies within the Vespucio ring. I don't exactly how much of Santiago that covers, but almost all of the eastern municipalities (Las Condes, Vitacura, La Reina and lo Barnechea) are thus not affected - same goes for some of the biggest muni's like la Florida...

Im ok with that, as long as immigrants come from a culture of good food. It should be its own special visa. People that know how cook and plan to open restaurants.

Re: First Chilean job offer

I have got an offer for about 1.2 mil pesos a month for salary. Do you think, it is a good salary to take up the offer in Santiago, chile ? Housing and all have to be borne by me. No allowances whatsoever. It depends on so many things. Might be OK if you are single and no kids (no school fees). If ...

Re: Do widows need copy of marriage certificate for banking?

Best to get it. The more legal docs you have the better. I both closed an account, although I was named on it and not the primary, and opened my own as a widow. I just had to prove sufficient income to qualify. Not your situation but different banks have different requirements - and different people...

Re: Starting a Church (or Opening a Branch) in Chile

The only problem might be a 100% online presence rather than something bricks and mortar. All paperwork looks simple on government websites and turns out to be a good deal more complicated in reality but if it is legal it can be done. It just takes time and patience.
