Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

It seems that obesity is a relevant factor in those that are dying and who have no other medical issues. I have seen that the outcome for those needed ventilators is not that great, in fact I saw that one doctor felt it was the wrong kind of treatment given the infections that can happen through in...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Pause for thought: one of the assistant surgeons (he is a healthy 40 yr old) in my now postponed operation came back from Brazil a couple of days before the op. He tested positive (a thought pause in itself) and self isolated for 14 days. He had a test on the 15th day and is still positive. Another ...

Re: PAY YOUR CAR TAX NOW, or your insurance is void, THE GOVERNMENT SCREWED-UP!!!!!

I had to renew my driving license in February and went in and paid the year's car tax in full at the same time. The kiosks for payment had not opened yet so you had to do it in the municipality's Dirección de Tránsito. I always pay in early March anyway but so glad I got it done in February. People ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

My daughter in law in Santiago is an OR head nurse of a major Clinic, all elective surgeries are now cancelled and 7 of 8 ORs are being converted to multi bed ICUs, the OR staff are retraining to be ICU staff.....not needed yet but they are preparing.... Mine was cancelled on the 16th, the last to ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Glad my son decided to ride it out here with me rather than return to the US. Still working online and a salary still coming in. One month working in the dream job in the place he wanted to be and then this. Not a word of complaint and yet some people complain they can't party or go to the beach.

Re: Quarentines and fines

Hi All A family member is moving into an apartment in Santiago communa at the weekend (I know, great timing). . I’m finding it hard to get details of the quarantine, if he’ll be able to move, he’ll need to buy a few things for the new place, etc.....does anyone know how strict the lockdown might be...

Re: Quarentines and fines

In Santiago. Used Rappi for one item and it came in a coupe of hours, Uber Eats brought a takeaway in an hour, Cornershop took nearly a week for a supermarket shop. According to Biobio (usually reliable source) deliveries will be allowed. But I have not seen anything official. Wonder when people wil...

Re: Quarentines and fines

Tomorrow morning there is going to be panic buying in every supermarket and farmacia in the 7 comunas. Social distancing will go to hell. They were still dithering over whether delivery will be allowed. I have enough supplies for the two of us for a week. But not everyone has that luxury. Let's hope...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

The ramifications are huge. A young friend about to start a new job in the US (chemist, so no working from home) is now housebound. No money coming in and wondering where the rent money will come from. He would prefer to save what he has to be able to eat. He is worried about getting evicted. So far...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

My operation was cancelled. All elective surgery cancelled at UC Hospital as they brace for virus victims. Surgeon says I would be in more danger from catching the virus than waiting for the operation. Mine was the last one cancelled. He was willing to go ahead if I chose because he knew my son had ...

Re: Don't be scared, be prepared.

Bought a small freezer today. If I have to hibernate I need to freeze some food and the freezer part of the fridge is very small. I really have nowhere to put it except in the dining room. Not a good look and I remember turning my nose up in Peru at people who had the fridge there. Karma comes to us...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I need advice. I am having a major operation on Tuesday and my son came today (after much rescheduling) to be with me. SFO - DFW - SCL on American. Now American has stopped flights from DFW and MIA to SCL so presumably those options for him to go back are out. Contacting American is proving challeng...
