Re: Argentine peso on the way to above 70

If you are a middle class Argentine you know how to handle the roller coaster. You have done it before. If you are not familiar with how things work and monetary collapse is not in your DNA you don't stand a chance. Step away. There are often bargains in hotel and restaurants for dollar rich tourist...

Re: Can you afford to live in Chile????

I think that is a bit low for two people. People here tend to think more in US dollars than Euros. I would say US$2000 - US$2500 is more realistic. Furnished flats are expensive and furnishing them even more so. You don't get kitchen appliances here or even light fittings in rented accommodation.

Re: New member, but "old" reader

Re pollution. Winter pollution is much higher in southern towns, which rely heavily on wood to heat and cook, than Santiago , This is one reason on the ground observation is vital. As for Santiago, the eastern side has best air quality. La Dehesa is often though to be better because of distance but ...

Re: New member, but "old" reader

My advice would be not to burn your bridges in the Netherlands if you do come. Don't sell your house, rent it. Come with a view to spending 3-6 months here, Then see how things look on the ground. Price health care. Price housing once you understand the neighbourhoods. You can buy a LOT of plane tic...

I think that the realities you found in 2015 have not changed. But I hope you can find some way to make it work. Good luck!

Re: Newbie

Yes, there was a lady on another forum who not only got taxi scammed for over US$300 but had the driver "help" her get the money out of the ATM to pay for it.

Thank you for this. Not fun discovering my name on that list.
Did you receive any notification from your bank?
Nope, nada. I'll go talk to them tomorrow.
A lot of people I know were advised by their bank. As everyone should have been.

Re: Newbie

Just be aware that AirB&B in Chile (or anywhere else) does not have the same safeguards as in the US. If you find a property, post a link here for advice. Best to find somewhere within walking distance of a metro station on line 1. Best walking to the historic center of Santiago: (Barrio is a neighb...

I wonder if they are winning the Jehovah's Witnesses vs Mormon battle for souls. I haven't had a JW ring the bell in quite a while. Not complaining.

Re: Chilean private schools compared to good US public schools

I am not sure what a jock culture is. The three schools have very complete sports activities but I am not sure if that is what you want to avoid. You might consider Santiago College to your list. The problem will be finding places in any of them. Two of us on here educated our children at the Grange...

Re: chaos in PDI

I did it in Viña del Mar. You can do the Registro Civil renewal process there too but have to say what municipality you wan them to send it to to pick up. I chose to do that stage in Santiago with an appointment. I made the appointment before I went to PDI as their certificate lasts 30 days and the ...
