Re: Any push back?

...the survivors (not in the medical sense) will be those who accept, adapt... I am a difficult person in many different respects. Especially, when there are any restrictions on freedom... that one has to "accept and adapt". I think there are other people of this sort. Maybe not... Anyway, do you b...

Re: Any push back?

I got out early this am to head off to San Antonio and Líder. I used the carretera and the kiosk girls warned me that there was a checkpoint a couple of km down the Rd with no way to circumvent it. A good save, seeing as I am under house quarantine for another week. I was wondering about your thoug...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

we have been avoiding the big super markets completely by using Jumbo delivery. few kinks in getting them to find our adress in the campo, one broken bottle of wine, but otherwise has been pretty good. Think we got the major kinks worked out now. we might never go back to shopping at the grocery st...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Interesting article on a flight that bought Chileans back from SE Ásia: https://www.biobiochile.cl/noticias/nacional/chile/2020/05/07/rayaron-hotel-y-exigieron-comida-vegana-en-vuelo-la-critica-a-chilenos-repatriados-desde-asia.shtml As of the time the article was written, only 45% of them had paid...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Thank you for posting that link. NPR podcasts are always worth listening to and this one especially. I wonder how much a statistical life is calculated at in Chile?

Re: Ludopathy gets a setback

I only once went into a casino, the one in Viña del Mar. It was completely silent except for the minor noise made by the various games. The people were all totally silent. There was no music. People were 100% concentrated on whatever game they were playing. It was highly depressing. They all looked ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I am not in a rush either. Haven't been out since the 16th of March. When the quarantine was lifted in my area I walked to the end of the block but panicked and returned home. I think a lot of people will feel like that for a while. Others will be champing at the bit to get out and about. They can g...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

The embassy does not organise flights. There are no "rights of repatriation". As a permanent resident you would be allowed into Chile with a 14 day quarantine after arrival if you could get here. There have been some charter flights from various parts of the world to return Chileans and permanent re...

Re: Should Schools Charge Less for Now?

Having actually worked inside the private education system in Chile for some years, I can assure you that a good school - not necessarily an expensive one - considers their contract to be with the child. A couple of generations ago "private" meant "religious" and overheads were quite different. Prie...

Re: Should Schools Charge Less for Now?

I guess if the answer is 1.4 million/1.1 million I'd be inclined to think teachers should take a 20%/10% pay reduction while there are no in-person classes (assuming a lot of remote classes and home working is getting done) and push harder for a reduction in costs; if the answer is 650.000 I'd be i...
