Re: The official thread re the future Valpo megaquake

I took another walk, and there's more roof damage than I thought. But the worst so far, is these new houses. It looks like horizontal 2x2's, spaced so that they can nail the top of each teja. They look like this: https://www.easy.cl/es/easy-chile/teja-hormigon-334-x-420-x-73-mm-colonial-arcilla-teja...

Re: Super Blood Wolf Full Moon Lunar Eclipse 20/21st

Yeah just a coincidence, how many major quakes have occurred when there wasn't a full moon? There was a guy after Christchurch quakes called Ken Ring aka the moon man, caused mass hysteria and panic claiming there was going to be another even bigger quake on the1st full moon after the deadly one in...

Re: The official thread re the future Valpo megaquake

yea those make no sense when there are bunch of lighter, safer, and more durrable options that still have the look. I think that's what those new white houses have. They look the same as those clay things, but didn't hold up too well to the earthquake. you drive around anywhere where that was a com...

Re: Super Blood Wolf Full Moon Lunar Eclipse 20/21st

I've got a pretty good view, especially since most of the street lights are still out. And it's not too cloudy.

Re: The official thread re the future Valpo megaquake

I just went for a walk through one of those new neighborhoods with a bunch of white houses that all look the same. With roofs made out of those half-round clay-colored things. And apparently there's not much underneath those clay-colored things, except just enough narrow slats of wood to nail them t...

Re: The official thread re the future Valpo megaquake

On the Richter scale 6.7. The director of ONEMI said it was an 8 on the Mercalli scale, and it felt like it. It felt like it here too. The only reason I can believe it was only a 6.7, is that it didn't last as long as the 8+ we had in 2015. People were saying it felt bigger because it was shallow. ...

Re: Lent a Chilean several millions pesos, and he does not pay back

A "friend" had been trying to set me up for a few years. So I just went back and read the rest of this thread, and now I'm sure he was trying to set me up for the "loan", right from the beginning. The first and only time he invited me over to his house, he told me how he loaned one of his relatives...

Re: Lent a Chilean several millions pesos, and he does not pay back

A "friend" had been trying to set me up for a few years. And when he finally started asking me for money, I gave him the benefit of a doubt and "loaned" him 25,000 pesos, never expecting to see it again. Which I thought was acceptable, considering he helped me out with a couple things earlier. Then ...

Re: Lent a Chilean several millions pesos, and he does not pay back

I think going after the money is the right thing to do from an unselfish standpoint for the whole of society and the right thing to do. Its the selfish thing to do as well, depending on your point of view :) This country has a history of incomers who thought they could change attitudes by personal ...

Just a coincidence that today is a blood moon lunar eclipse and a 6.7 (technically yesterday) occurs. 2010 also occurred during a full moon.
I don't think it was a coincidence. That's probably what triggered it.

Well, that was a biggie in Serena. Scenes of panic, tsunami warning, things falling down, electricity off. Still getting the odd little aftershock.
Yeah, lots of rumbling in Coquimbo. But everything seems back to normal here, except the street lights are still out.
