Re: Internet outages, march 13th 2019

I did have a problem issuing a boleta on the SII site earlier, but I had the same problem last month. And I eventually got it to work, both times. So it didn't seem like a general outage problem that just happened today. But there's definitely a problem of some kind.

Re: Internet outages, march 13th 2019

I haven't noticed any problems yet, in Coquimbo. I never use facebook though. Or anything they own, like whatsapp, if I can avoid it. But I do use google.

Re: Sugary food in chile

Yes, the cancer rate here has to give one pause. But Chile was also downwind from the nuclear testing in the South Pacific by USA/France/etc. decades back. There's a timelapse video map of all the nuclear testing here, except for the most recent ones, in case anyone hasn't seen it before: https://n...

Re: Sugary food in chile

I only had salmon here a few times, and it was from Jumbo. So I'm probably safe from that. Now I just buy fish that was canned, I think right here in Coquimbo. Although who knows where it was, before it got into the can? One thing that's always bothered me, and I try not to think about, is all the s...

Re: Sugary food in chile

The latest abomination is supermarket bread, which is trucked in frozen. The instore "bakeries" just stick it in the ovens, and generally pull it out undercooked, so the result is dense and soggy. Of course, as bread is sold by weight, the stores make more money the higher the water content, as wel...

Re: Sugary food in chile

Keep in mind that healthy ice cream is an oxymoron. I find the food here is much better than the US, because I can walk down the street and buy all the fresh fruits and vegetables I want. The fish is caught locally, so I at least know where it came from. And wine is good and cheap. I try not to thin...

Re: Sugary food in chile

I bought a small bottle of lemon juice about a year ago, thinking it would actually be lemon juice. But it was mainly some form of added sugar, so I dumped it out because it was useless. Then I went back to the store, and looked at the other brands, and they were all the same. I can't even imagine w...

Re: The official thread re the future Valpo megaquake

One year, sometime between the previous local major event in 1997, and the mega-shake in 2010, we had 2 or 3 months of tremors, at least one almost every day. Then they stopped. Maybe that's what's happening now. We had a 5.7 yesterday. And I was just walking home when we had a 4.7, and everything ...

Re: Correos Chile is horrible!

I have never had a problem with correos chile, but I also do not use them for international shipping. Why did you not use FedEx? If you use FedEx make sure they can't overcharge your credit card. Or they'll max it out, and you'll have a hell of a time trying to get it fixed. My friend was helping m...

Re: The Chile Eclipses Thread

I checked 9 hotels vs the price the next week and they are charging between 1.5x the regular price and 12x the regular price (average was 4.6x). The cheapest hotel I saw was 557,000 CLP + taxes for 4 nights for a pretty basic looking hotel. That sounds like a lot, just to watch it get dark outside....
