I can't argue with that. And they're very patient too. I know a guy who pretended to be my friend for about 2 or 3 years, before he started asking for money. I always knew something wasn't right.

TIme to update this thread about my failed attempts to get a bank account.
Did you try getting a cuenta vista, or just a cuenta corriente? I think the cuenta RUT is a cuenta vista, and other banks have similar accounts without the 3 million limit. But I could be wrong.

Re: What is this?

Once in a while the almacen down the street has something I've never seen before, but nothing much recently. Camotes are really good, and I always buy a bunch when they have them. Otherwise, they mainly have the standard red and white potatoes.

Re: What is this?

I've never seen them before, but would have guessed some kind of potatoe. Are they hard like potatoes, and do you cook them like potatoes? They look like some kind of root thing, after being washed and scrubbed. What do they taste like?

capital gains tax on stocks and ETF's sold in US brokerage account

Does anyone here know if capital gains are taxed in Chile, for stocks or ETF's sold in a US brokerage account? I've read that capital gains are generally taxed here as normal income, but that's just the general rule, and there are exemptions. My accountant said no, but I want to make sure before I d...

Re: Choosing an AFP

So to summarize. Chilean social security/AFP is a joke. The money put into it should be kissed goodbye as a throwaway fee for immigration and alternative to US SS The only benefit is Chilean AFP/social security is less than US Social Security so with a totalization agreement it can cut your US tax ...

Re: AFP: Opening the black box

If the global sysyem is going to be run on "free markets", regardless if you like that or not, it assumes everyone at least should understand the game they are forced to play. Imagine if cows and chickens understood the game they're forced to play. I just saw this article on ZH a few minutes ago: "...

Re: AFP: Opening the black box

Their returns are crap. What was it last year for the highest risk best performing fund like 4 or 5% or something, and the others were flat to negative. If you also have US Social Security, your small AFP gains will effectively be replaced by huge AFP losses, because of the Windfall Elimination Pro...

We know how to do these type of systems / investment funds, why the hell are we messing around with all these crappy over priced funds.
Insurance companies make lots of money on these crappy overpriced funds. So they pay their salespeople/politicians very high commissions to sell them.

Chile needs more taxation in order to provide good health, education, police etc for everyone, not less.
Yes, all kids from Britain should have to pay more taxes
