Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Unfortunately all the numbers we are fed are pretty useless. Infection rates - mostly a function of testing rates and - test quality Mortality rates - possibility for under- und overreporting especially if death was not solely caused by Covid-19 On the latter interesting article from El Pais on exce...

Re: Curfew nation wide 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

And considering how many ignorant little millenials are out there think they should be able to do what they like and damn everyone else (even their own grandparents). There will be some real hard choices and trade-offs involving people's life. Obviously not the rather trivial "right to party of a G...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

not to mention graphing statistics over 16 days, with only 630 cases, etc, etc, when this is over, we can go back and start mapping stats. One thing I am certain of, historians will be working with a completely different set of statistics when they write the history books because everything we know...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I follow this site for real time numbers and stats: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ This site is being updated regularly - multiple times throughout the day. I've been cross checking it against local news reports from time to time and it seems to be accurate. I've had it bookmarked for a...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I'm still confused why mortality rates are so different in different countries (leaving away the quite obvious lying of Chinese authorities) say between Italy and Germany. I'm not sure whether testing rates are sufficient to explain it (although they are likely the dominant reason). Other explanatio...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

WTF with the 110 years life expectancy? Pure incompetency and self-inflicted disaster. I think neither. The fact that mortality tables go up to 110 years, doesn't mean that the life expectancy is 110 years. In fact other countries go much higher, i.e. 120 to 140 years https://www.emol.com/noticias/...

Re: Professional Indemnity Insurance

Take-up rates for PI insurance in Chile (as in the rest of Latam) is very low. I have come across some policies in the four major areas (accountants and lawyers, architects and engineers, medical malpractice and financial services), but generally very incidental and due to special situations (foreig...

Impuesto Territorial Exemption

Quick question: I have a property in "El Golf" which has us paying approx. USD 25'000 annually in impuesto territorial (aka contribuciones). We will move to a smaller property soon and have received some offers to buy, although we would really prefer keep the property and rent it out. The target mar...

Re: World financial collapse brewing ahead

My most likely scenario (but my crystal ball in not better than anybody elses) All CoCo and most of the zoo of hybrid capital gets triggered and converted to equity DOJ fine will be marginally decreased (at least that's the rumour which made the round earlier today) Minimal bail-in of senior unsecur...
