Re: Toxic Mold in House?

I found a lot of Chileans didn't understand the importance of extracting/venting humidity from the house. The last property I bought the windows top section in both bathroom and kitchen when 'closed' had centimetre gaps between each glass flap. Great for preventing smoke and humid build up, but awfu...

Re: ATM fee

Lloyds TSB to Banco Estado, no charges, but they did once hold the cash for a couple of weeks, eventually got an explanation the bank was doing it to hold more capital from one employee.

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

I'm sure the cabinet issue will be fine if you have the cash for the replacement, just don't be too apologetic and gringo or they'll want to make up some figure for manual (Or Manuel) labour! Yeah, I have to learn to be less gringo:) I think you're right, and everything will be ok. I still need to ...

Re: prepping, for the super rich

My Dad bought cheap land out in Spain and made a holiday business out on it, be bought the land about 15 years ago before it all boomed. Now he is retiring and wants to sell up, but can't because there is a new legal certificate all modern buildings have, but where he rebuilt a collapsed farm house ...

I think the miscalculation about New Zealand as a safe haven, is the risk posed by being so close to the Southeast Asia instability. They will wake up one day with a flood of Asian boat people on their front lawn, because something went horribly wrong in Asia. New Zealand is a long, long, long way ...

Re: Flooding, Mud Slides, Water cut, Santiago and North

Of course this is Chile and of course all have water stored for the occasional water cut... Yeah because earthquakes don't happen too... The gob smacked looks from my wife when making up stores of water and tinned food... As for Santiago, what about Sao Paulo the other year used all their water up ...

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

Gloria just doesn't sound like she has a understanding of how Chile works. Really? I thought I did. Let's see: I have been in Chile almost 9 years, I'm a native, fluent speaker, writer, reader of the Spanish language, I have negotiated the rental of a house, purchases of material construction, a ca...

Re: someone shot my cat

Animal cruelty in Chile is getting taken much more seriously last few years. There is a government department just for animal wealthier now. Might be to do with the fact if your caught hurting animals.your likely to get leaches by mobs (rightfully) in many parts of Chile now. There is a lot of sick ...

I did that. Wasn't a problem as long as your not working on the tourist visa.

Re: LAN Will Have First Dreamliner Flights Into South America Starting July 2015

Resuming the thread: when making a one-way trip, sometimes it can be cheaper to buy a round trip and simply abandon the second half, rather than buy a true one way fare. Has anyone tried this, and if so, did you get any hassles from the airline when booking subsequent flights on the same route? (pe...
