Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

The ramifications are huge. A young friend about to start a new job in the US (chemist, so no working from home) is now housebound. No money coming in and wondering where the rent money will come from. He would prefer to save what he has to be able to eat. He is worried about getting evicted. So fa...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Remember, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." (sometimes unwittingly)

Moral of the story: Be very careful when comparing and interpreting statistics; they might differ in their conditions, assumptions and measures.

I think we are going to just have to nominate the people in Washington D.C. for whole lot of Darwin awards this year. They seem hell bent on removing themselves from the gene pool.
The world should be so lucky!

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

the doctor has some interesting new data on the death rates. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-60EvBSLulo While his statements are usually quite rational, I suggest his grasp of statistics is lacking. For example, near the beginning of this video he says that because the percentage cases of people in ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

we really do not have reliable statistics or data, to make even proper guesses. which probably is the real scientific tragedy going on. As I see it, politicians, for all sorts of reasons, have been interfering in basic data gathering. The data we need to bench mark the progression of this pandemic,...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

to Andras et al. There is a definitive diagnostic tool: a CT scan shows clearly and immediately if the lungs are filling/full of fluid. The fluid accumulation in the lungs is what causes death - by drowning! This is particular to this particular virus. The problem may be that there is currently no ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Not sure whether it has been mentioned at allchile, but this website seems like a credible source of Corona Virus (and other) data: https://swprs.org/a-swiss-doctor-on-covid-19/ https://swprs.org/corona-media-propaganda/ One of the topics discussed is why Italy has so many deaths compared to other c...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I am engineer type. I like numbers. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find hard information about the accuracy of any of the various tests. It is just not there. The info is being kept secret. This tells me that the tests are really bad. It is like when you go to a website to buy something, and inst...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

seen an interview the other day, on a totally different subject and country. but the guest, a political scientist, said, " what is a government, other than an organization that manages a portfolio of catastrophic risks that the private sector is either unwilling or unable to manage"? I kind of like...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

Once again I offer Australia as an example. Is Australia a socialist country? No. That is an imprecise and inaccurate statement. Whether or not a country is "socialist" is not a binary (yes, no) question; it is a gradient. Australia is far more socialist than it should be, both in respect to govern...

Can a Chilean (non-resident) use a foreign driving licence in Chile?

I do not recall the following be addressed: Can a Chilean citizen who is not a resident of Chile, who does not have a current Chilean driving licence, legally use a non-Chile driving licence to drive in Chile? My family's situation: - My Chilean citizen wife ceased being a Chilean resident, now live...

Re: FATCA repeal introduced to the house of reps

Just to put it "on the record":
I am being harrassed about FATCA reporting by an Australian bank despite providing evidence I ceased being a US citizen six years ago.
