Re: Why we left Chile

Answers to the questions posed by forum members: - We met over 150 startups (Chilean and foreign, many with Startup Chile). We would have invested in some of them if we had the fund up and running. - We met just about all of the people one would meet if one were starting a VC fund and raising money ...

Why we left Chile

I posted last week that I am leaving Chile after 6 months. The mystery is over. This is why. La Segunda interviewed my partner a few days ago and this article came out: "Gurú" israelí del emprendimiento abandona Chile: "La gente adinerada está cómoda donde está" http://www.lasegunda.com/Noticias/Eco...

Re: Leaving Chile: what I will miss

Yeah, that's all I can think of. I'm Filipina and I really care about food. So having spicy, savoury food is very important to me. Being in Singapore means I can visit the Philippines. Also it's easy to fly from Singapore to Burma (which really love and want to visit again), Laos, Thailand, and Japa...

Leaving Chile: what I will miss

After six months in Chile, we are headed off to Singapore. What I will miss are:
- our wonderful "nana" who was an excellent cook, too
- the seafood (especially the pulpo)

That's it.

Re: Why is it impossible to find an apartment?

We found a lovely apartment in Vitacura (3 bedrooms, 3 bath) with large patio on the uppermost floor. We used Engel & Volkers, the real estate brokers. You should try to contact them.

Re: What to see and do in Temuco ?

I wouldn't stay in Temuco. Better to drive further down south and go to Pucon. If you insist on Temuco, there is a casino called Dreams.

Re: Run run runaround

OK I have to weigh in here. I live in Vitacura and honestly, there's very little dog shit in Vitacura. There is NO trash lying on the streets. The municipal trash trucks come around everyday. People are always sweeping the streets and cleaning the parks. It's much cleaner in Vitacura than San Franci...

Re: Chile Copper Dogfight: Anglo American screws Codelco

More on the Codelco-Anglo American battle: in the past 3 days, various Chilean politicians (ministers and even the Prez himself) have been calling Anglo American all kinds of names short of the "Devil" (please, no Opus Dei jokes here). Yesterday, the president of the Chilean Senate threatened to int...

Chile Copper Dogfight: Anglo American screws Codelco

I've been following this fascinating battle between Codelco, the Chilean state owned mining operator, and Anglo American, the global mining concern over the recent sale of 24.5% of Anglo American Sur to Mitsubishi for a rather high price. Bear in mind that nothing in the contract prevents Anglo Amer...

Re: Volcano Eruption Chile, 2011, Puyehue-Cordón Caulle

The Puyehue pass (Samore) is open. We drove through it yesterday. Trucks were also driving through the pass. The ash is falling heavily on Villa La Angostura, not so much in Llao Llao or Bariloche or San Martin de los Andes.

Re: Machu Picchu & Iquitos

It's not true that younger people (i.e. in their 20s) can walk the Inca Trail and the alternative Inca Trails in better shape than people in their 40s and 50s. On the contrary, I saw many young men trying to act so macho by walking up too FAST. What happens is they get close to the top of a pass com...
