Re: Honey, and palm honey

I can post a few kml links for Google Earth but my internet isn't very good right now so better next week... the places I know are out past Futrono, going towards Llifén and on to Calcurrupe. I don't know how you're motorized, a normal car is mostly good enough with some care but after Calcurrupe t...

Re: El Mundo del Vino or WAIN?

Jen, on you elaborate on returning/exchanging wine? Interesting concept, why would you do it? just out of interest.... Sure, the main rules around returning wine are that if it smells/tastes like something other than wine, it's likely defective in some way. - Smelling like cardboard generally means...

Re: Honey, and palm honey

This is not exotic or frou-frou, and depending on where you are it may not be so easy for you to organize, but around Valdivia a lot of people I know buy their honey directly from the beekeeper in summer and autumn. I think the price reference is around $1800-2000 pero kilo, and it's typically boug...

Re: Tea

The Tea Pot in Vina was one of my favorites as well. Besides some decent tea, it has a nice outdoor patio and wifi, and on occasion giggly girls who ask to take your picture (weird, but true)...

Re: The unknown benifits of your RUT

In the US, as recently as 5-10 years ago people commonly asked for your social security number to verify identity, etc, before identity theft became a concern for the larger population. With a stolen SSN, thieves can open credit cards in other people's names, take out lines of credit, etc. What is t...

Re: El Mundo del Vino or WAIN?

IMO, these are the best places in Chile to get high-quality wine if you're not buying directly from a winery. They take good care of the wine, and have wines you won't find in the grocery store. For most, it's not where they'd head for wines for everyday consumption, but I'd definitely recommend hea...

Re: Seafood empanada?

Last winter in Concon and Vina del Mar, we found that you could buy a seafood empanada almost anywhere you could buy a meat empanada, and fried empanadas were the norm. Except at Unimarc, if I recall correctly. Empanadas with machas ranged from average where it was highly suspect that the machas wer...

Re: Good Hair Salon in Valdivia/Frutillar - Ladies

No tips from personal experience, though I would love to hear if you find anyone good! And bonus points if they don't try to convince you to convert your hair into their interpretation of what good hair should look like (hairdressers in Latin America seem to assume that I would want to suddenly swit...

Re: Crappy milk = crappy ice cream

Hint: to those of you looking for a business idea, buy some land, some cows, and sell fresh milk (no UHT pasteurizing, porfa) and icecream. It would be a novelty to Chileans and such a treat for us expats! How I would love to have real milk...
