Re: What no abortions means in Chile...

It's a very tough issue. And everybody has an opinion. Can anyone DEMONSTRATE that his opinion is the correct one, and that others are wrong? If not, the most reasonable course would be to allow the woman facing the situation to make her own choices, based on her own moral point of view. Of course, ...

Re: ACA refugees?

As a liberal, I would much preferred to have a single-payer health care plan with cost-containment measures built in. However, very early on in the discussion it was made clear that, with so many oxen being gored, it wasn't gonna happen. So in the end, the result was the monstrosity called 'Obamaca...

Re: Hello all. I am a 22 year old wanting to move to Arica

Every place has its good and its bad. Arica is as has been pointed out, a border town. And on the edge of Arica there is a population living in poverty in shanty towns built from cast-off lumber and sheet metal. There are children there who seldom have a meal that includes meat. And yes, I'm sure th...

Re: American Expats in Arica?

Thanks for the responses. I visited there around Easter for a couple weeks, and I like the area very much. And since mi chilena is a devotee of folcloric music and dance (she hosts 'Raices Americanas' on Radio Montecarlo, for anyone interested in that side of the local culture), it is great that Ari...

American Expats in Arica?

Howdy, I am planning to retire in Arica in 18 or 24 months, and I am looking for expats there that could be a source of information for me. Mi Chilena of course does not have any idea of the problems unique to immigrants, and after looking through this forum, I confess to having some anxieties. I wi...

Re: how much weight does holding a masters degree carry in c

JAJAJA! My Masters is in philosophy. But I have never read the great Chilean philosophers (though I HAVE studied the wit and wisdom of Px, of course). Alas, I suspect my degree is of no value whatsoever.

Nevertheless, this is a good tip. I just used them to send flowers to my novia for Mothers' Day, and they were beautiful!

Re: What do you like about Chile

One of my favorite things in Chile is the folcloric music. $3 US to attend a pena in Arica featuring several bands and folcloric dancing. And the quality of the musicianship is amazing! One day I will retire there and never leave!

When I was in Arica last month I leaned that drinking melon juice provides a powerful laxative that keeps you in the bathroom for three days! JAJAJA!

Re: Good Places to eat

Thanks Tom--ate at Picada del Muertito when I was in Arica last month. The pastel de choclo was decent, and I enjoyed the guitarist who provided his music folcloric.
