Craighouse, Dunalastair, Colegio Aleman, Lincoln - Chicureo

In an effort to round up lost gringo souls with children attending school in the Chicureo / Piedra Roja area I offer comfort in the form of fellow lost souls :) Our wee little group of expats in suburbia will have a Meet-and-Greet Monday the 18th at El Establo. It will be at 8:15 pm and it is fully ...

Re: Want to buy a heater.

Well Toyotomi seems popular. I need to warm 2 bedrooms on the second floor of a house. I've seen the neighbors park a Toyotomi right behind the main entrance door so the heat would rise to the second floor.

Want to buy a heater.

My first winter I rellied on an electric blanket and let the kids have the fancy quartz electric heater. $400 electric bill later (They pressed the pretty buttons without permission) I am confiscating it. So now I am hoping to buy the type of heater everyone puts downstairs so the heat rises and hea...

Re: 630 am I jump from my home window to chase a thief

Neighbors to the left, to the right and across the street have been robbed. Since then I invested in an electrical fence and adopted a street dog in addition to the one I already had. I also have a Louisville Slugger which I happily take out to the street with along with my dogs, off leash, rounding...

If nothing else I have learned through this experience who to count on as an expat in Chile. Cheers Allchile!

Re: All Chile RSS Feed?

Attempting my first use of a reader and chose Allchile as my first RSS feed and naturally can't sort it out. I am using NetNewsWire because supposedly it is the best freebie choice for Mac users. I copied every RSS feed in there and get one of two responses: error 404 or no feed located. Should I tr...

Re: IRS ? Husband works in Chile and wife USA

I haven't earned a penny yet. Tomorrow I sign the paperwork for the 1099. In a past life I used EFTPS to make quarterly payments to Uncle Sam and will do so again. I am just concerned that until I do find someone with a clue or get one myself I don't wan't to overpay. I really don't trust that I wil...

Re: Americans are 'sicker and die younger'...

Don't mess with the IKEA. The IKEA is my friend. The IKEA feeds me and watches my children while I compulsively shop for nothing I came there to buy. Regarding health, yep, that is where I have most felt like an expat. Drugs rule the airwaves and aisles but good luck finding AFFORDABLE food that is ...

Re: moving to chile from an american school

Sorry to hear that Aguila. I am glad that your granddaughter had the option to get out of a bad situation. I used to worry about gaining or losing years with my children when relocating until I changed my perspective. When the time comes for university or work age is not that big an issue. A person'...

IRS ? Husband works in Chile and wife USA

Well that is my hope. I just interviewed for a remote position based out of the USA and will meet with my new boss this week to fill out paperwork. I will be using the 1099 (self-employed) tax form since the income is contract based, some short, some long, some gaps of no work in between. I followed...

Re: Bastard maestros

I have found excellent maestros, gardeners and nanas but their number one complaint about finding customers in our "fine" area is "Cheap before anything." When I refer someone boasting of their merits the "Yes but how much do they charge?" is always the deal breaker. Gloria is on to something. Chile...
