Re: Pesos and Protests

I I question whether there are many Chileans even have any money to save in any currency. From my conversations with those who live in the East of Santiago, none of them, not one, has any savings at all. All are up to their eyes in debt and always have been. It’s the only way they can live the life...

Re: New rules or the same old

lost gringo... things have certainly changed from a few years ago, when I needed a replacement, as I recall wandering in, waiting for perhaps 15 minutes and out again with it in my hand. Why you should even need it is beyond my comprehension, but then so are many of the govt requirements.

Re: New rules or the same old

I renewed mine last year, and had to produce the original cert. If you dont have it, you need to get a copy.

Unfortunately you still have to go and join the dreaded line at PDI to get the certificado de vigencia. It’s totally illogical, but then so are many of the bureaucratic requirements here.

Re: Should I bring pounds in cash from the UK to Chile?

Mr Duck, I cant see any mention of Lloyds in any of the reports on Revolut. I did read about the problem they had with unpaid staff and various other accusations that wouldnt be expected of a reputable bank. I dont like the names of the owners/founders, nor their backgrounds and although it does hav...

Re: Passport and visa info

For some years now, you cant renew a UK passport in a consulate. It has to be done online and you have to pay for it to be couriered back to you. They will not send it by mail. This change was made as a result of finding various consulates around the world who were accepting bribes to issue passport...

Re: Getting PDI Certificate from different city.

I had the same problem last year so went to Talca. The PDI man wasnt too happy and said I needed to get it in the city where I lived. I explained that this was not a requirement mentioned on the govt webpage, and he begrudgingly gave it to me.

Re: Should I bring pounds in cash from the UK to Chile?

I would suggest you follow the rates for a while and see what movement there is. I do think that the holiday seasons make a difference, and for those going from Chile to the UK, they are in the unfortunate situation of having a currency ( Peso) which is useless outside of South America. So if they w...

Re: Any recommendation for a traumatólogo in Santiago?

You can give Jorge Cardona a call. He is Colombian but during his career, has worked in the US so must speak English. My wife is presently with him for arthritis problems with her shoulder and knees, which he is treating via stem cells. She sees him at Inbiormed.cl in Av Manquehue but if you google ...

Re: Online Service Taxation

I dont know the mechanics of it, but Australia recently started taxing all imports, even the low value ones that were previously not taxed. When I buy say from ebay in the US and have the item shipped to Aussie, ebay charge me the tax and somehow hand it over. I think the same is now happening with ...
