Re: Transferring money

If you only transfer small amounts, you will always get hit hard with costs; it’s always been like that. Remember that some banks have a minimum charge and others have a sliding scale. They dont want small business as it’s just not worth it. From my own experience , it makes a big difference which C...

Re: Tenants disappeared during the night

Problems with tenants is just something that you have to accept as an owner. All businesses involve risks of one kind or another. Every time a company sells to another on credit, it takes the risk of not getting paid. If you are averse to risks, you should put your money in a bank, where in the long...

Re: Housing market situation

If you're planning to buy with cash vs. a mortgage, let them know right away in your initial email. That usually puts you in the front of the queue. That’s exactly what I do. In certain high demand areas, I think the corredora finds an interested party, then concentrates on him, before moving on to...

Re: Housing market situation

There’s certainly no lack of demand in El Golf for apartments. In the last two weeks, two apartments came up on portalinmobiliario , that I liked the look of, One was sold before I could even go to see it, and the other sold today, even though the corredora said she’d let me know if anyone made an o...

Re: Housing market situation

I agree completely with the principles used by admin. As he clears points out, the only guarantee with holding cash is to lose by inflation. After the last big earthquake that his us, and the atms couldnt work, nor could we use credit cards for a bit, I stuffed some billetes in a box, so that if som...

Re: TAXES

from my recollection of the law, foreign pensions are not considered to be income, and hence should not be included on form 22. Sii says such pensions are not income, which is different from being non taxable income.

Re: Housing market situation

I believe that the more you pay for the property, the harder it is to rent it out for a reasonable return, and also it can sit empty for some time waiting for a tenant. I would agree that for an investment, it is far better to go for lower value property that is easier to rent and gives around 5% re...

Re: options for withdrawing funds from an AFP

You may ant to check with ISP, as when I arrived here, and I think is still the case, if you are a foreigner from a country that has a bilateral agreement with Chile, which the US has, then you can opt out of paying into an AFP, and hence the situation that you mentioned wouldnt arise. Apart from th...

Re: TAXES

admin, I have the same opinion, but at least with Pinera’s new plan, I think it’s workable and as is a little more understandable. What is always the problem with tax laws is they are not written by accountants/tax specialists but by politicians, who albeit may have an MBA from Harvard, have not had...
