Re: Favorite Restaurants

There is a decent Thai restaurant in La Serena. In a residential neighbourhood - called Lemongrass.
Also think that Tololo beach is quite good.

Re: Corona Virus!

Still hunting for a confirmed case in South America. Sure it is only a matter of time, but on some level, time is your biggest friend in these sorts of things. The longer it can be stretches out, natural herd immunity has a chance to kick in as the novelty of the "noval coronavirus" sort of wears o...

Re: The new constitutional vote and the social crisis

seen an interesting poll in the local paper, asking people if they planned to participate in the constitutional vote. 20% said "no". there was no further context or comments, but i would curious to see why 20% of people are not voting. Because they don't realize that they will get fined if they don...

Re: Visit Santiago Feb.

The heat is not that bad in my opinion. It is dry - stick to the shade and it is manageable. Besides from Plaza Italia, you should be ok in terms of protests. In terms of nightlife, then February is not a good month. The party is on the coast or down by the lakes in general. Climate at night is very...

Re: The Economic Impact of the Social Crisis

It is a Movistar thing. Works in all Movistar countries + some additional ones. Pretty neat. Furthermore, the pasaporte roaming is a ok deal.
Claro seems to have an even better roaming offer, but haven't tried it.

Re: entering Peru with Carnet only?

All mine were in the airport.
In BOG, once or twice they asked questions, but the supervisors normally know the rules. In LIM I have never been asked anything in regards to my passport

Agreed on always carrying the passport as well, but I have been to Peru more than 10 times only showing my cedula. Never had any problems

Re: entering Peru with Carnet only?

You need a passport if the country you're a national of doesn't have an agreement with Peru allowing you to travel with your ID only. This doesn't have anything to do with your Chilean permanent resident status. Source: https://www.migraciones.gob.pe/index.php/control-migratorio-de-ingreso-de-extra...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

Today in Plaza Italia could be interesting. Apparently, carabineros have posted or will post 1000 officers around the plaza.
