Re: Chile Peso 2018, Starts at 605.50

What is going on with the peso/dollar exchange rate? Now it is over 660. I was afraid that by now it would be already down to around 550, as others had thought... Is this because of low copper price due to less China demand, Trump's trade war hurting China and copper demand, rising USA interest rate...

Re: So long, Chile.

I live on Apoquindo next to Stadio Itailano. The building is 4 years old and has fibre optic cable. My computer is a slow cheap 7 year old Lenovo junk laptop, running Fedora 23 Linux. I thought that it would get stolen within 6 months after getting to Chile, but it never got stolen after all these y...

Re: VPN

We use Fedora 21 Linux on our 6 year old cheapo Lenovo laptops and new Zotac Intel i3 home theater PC, use ExpressVpn and connect to their servers, through the OpenVpn protocol, which is part of Linux. So we use configuration files from ExpressVpn, but do not have to download or install any of their...

Re: Greece default imminent ?

:D Greece had fun, fun, fun, till "Mutti" took the Euro away... :D So on Sunday, the Greeks can vote: Yes ---> We vote "Yes", to have our entitlements further slashed, under some German plan of extended "austerity", administered by Wolfgang Schauble and Angela Merkel. But a 20 percent reduced "Euro"...

Re: Possible to be a practicing veterinarian in Chile?

The son of my friend is a chilean educated veterinarian, born in Chile, lived here his whole life, speaks fluent chilean Spanish, German, and English. He lives in Concepcion, in his dad's house on Laguna Chica, is about 30 years old, and works half time as a veterinarian, for about 600,000 pesos per...

From: http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/on- ... f-in-chile where Santiago is proposed as a possible retirement destination. "The big appeal of this country is the lifestyle, which is hard to beat, especially if you’re interested in city living in this part of the world. Santiago is an internationa...

Re: Wondering about some nitty gritty details about living in Chile

I have not yet seen a heated pool which means they are summer only for most people. I have not yet seen an indoor pool although I could have missed one more easily of course, but I doubt they are common in this part of Chile. If it is important to you to have year round swimming in a heated pool I ...

Re: Netflix access from Chile via VPN's

OK, In March 2015, Intel is going to release the INTEL COMPUTE STICK. If you have a good internet connection, with wireless router, and a HDTV, then this box looks good. Since it is a full fledged Linux Computer, you can probably get VPN installed in it, use a remote wireless keyboard and mouse, and...

Re: USD/CLP: Please Say a Prayer for Better Rates

Sort of related to banking here in Chile. Today my USA bank cards were not accepted at the Banco Security, in El Golf. The same ATM machine that had accepted these cards for years, now says that the cards are not accepted. The security guard said that the machine had an upgrade last week. I tried Ba...

Re: Witnessing Birth New Country, the Scotland

Prediction. There is no way that Scotland will vote for independence, tomorrow. Everyone on the dole, everyone with some sort of government entitlement or business connection would not dare risk a possible reduction of benefits. Most people just much fear change too much, than to vote for liberty, l...

Re: In which comuna would you buy a family property?

Vitacura, Las Condes etc. are nice and clean because the property taxes are high. High property taxes according to Chileno standards, perhaps! :D Per year, we are paying about 0.5 percent of market value, on a small apartment in Las Condes, with which we are quite happy, I might add. The single fam...
