Re: 7 August Midnight - Postal Strike Begins

I have a package coming from the US. I was hoping it would make it before the strike. Silly me, I figured three weeks for a 'delivered in 7-11 working days' would have been plenty of time, but I guess Chile once again proved me wrong.

Re: Vegemite Supply

I'm doing a trip over in October to be at home for my birthday. Think I might do the same; take home just a carry on but bring back my 46kilo luggage allowance in Vegemite, Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes, macadamia nuts and the like

I found macadamia nuts in Lider one time. Only, oh, $5000 for a 200gram pack. I just looked and dreamed.

Re: How did you learn Spanish?

Perhaps a private class would be best? Don't bother going through an language institute but instead get a private Spanish teacher. A lot of bilingual uni students and institute Spanish teacher do it on the side for some extra cash (and a time out from dull institute classes). IMO private classes are...

Re: Gyms in Santiago

Pacific Fitness is a chain gym that's around a lot of neighbourhoods and is basic but good. The one I go to is small but it still has nice equipment, regular classes and good showers, plus the staff are really nice. I know that do deals on yearly plans at around $12.000 a month, but if it's just sho...

Re: Walking and automatic perro compañeros

We've been in Chile three weeks and I've been really impressed by the street dogs. They're so civilised. I've previously travelled through Thailand where they're not great and Samoa where they're worse, so was apprehensive when hearing about the street dogs in Chile. But so far I actually like them...

Re: Legal issues concerning English Institute

It was the Sam Marsalli English Institute. I feel so scared saying that publicly- Sam has his spies everywhere and I feel like one is going to leap out behind me, kidnap me and brainwash me "Sam is good.... Sam is great..." Wouldn't put it past them. But now if I've named them I may as well get it a...

Legal issues concerning English Institute

I began working for an English institute who had promised me a work visa. Even before I put the paperwork through for the visa, the institute were taking the 10% 'tax' out of my pay slips. I left the institute before I ever had a work visa and I never received boletas to claim that tax back. Even if...

I find that customs at the airport changes depending on the day and who is working. There seems to be a list of things that are banned but customs officials will only pull you up on it if they feel like it. Perhaps they've had a bad day, they're new and trying to do their job right, they need to fil...
