Re: Visa for wife and kids - Sujeto Contrato

We did ours some years ago from australia. Employer wanted it done that way, and in the long run despite the fact that you can do it in chile, you can't get paid in chile until it is approved, so it was better to wait here in paid employment until the paperwork was processed. For the dependants (mys...

Re: In Chile and need help with tourist visa issue

We once travelled from Antofagasta to Santiago on a flight that had previously come from Bolivia. Everyone else on the plane was from the int'l flight, we landed in santiago at the international terminal, and when we got down towards customs, I just flashed my boarding pass to show I had only been o...

Re: 7.9 to 8.3 earthquake, tsunami evacuation

Spent a few years living in Iqq. According to friends via FB, their biggest issue at this point is that the road east is damaged/blocked, many husbands are 400km away in the mines and will have to take a very long trip to get back, with little reliable communication, it's a stressor for everyone. No...

Re: Information on "Sello Verde" (Cars)

We lived in Iquique, we bought a new car there, it was cheaper but not by a great deal. I did have a few friends with experience in buying imported used cars up there. Most got great deals. But, mostly they found a used car dealer that imported, told them what they were looking for, and waited. Seem...

Iqq is a great place, I lived there for a few years. Pretty laid back but can be expensive. Big question is, Have you had your flu shot?

Re: is bachelet courting communist?

so i am not a fan of bachelet, mostly because she proved she was really not a leader in sooooo many ways after the earthquake. however, there is an ap article all over the web about how she is courting the communist party, even though the same article clearly states she has never said that she is c...

Re: Where to get iPhone 5 in white over the counter, not onl

hmmm, some of those big stores you can buy online and opt to pick up. But, looks like you have can't buy the phone outright as such - the all seem to say at the least you have to buy a pre-paid chip to go with it - you'd need to make sure it was unlocked to take it to someone in Sao Paolo.

Re: Driving a company truck... Do I need a Chilean license?

We were in Chile for 4 years on visas sujeto a contrato. We had chilean drivers licenses, but had to do all the psicometric testing etc, though not the theory (at that time, I believe the requirements have changed). Our licenses were only valid until the end date of our visas, and we had to renew a ...

Re: Looking for a school for our 7 year old

This is not in santiago, but I recommend you read this blog of a family who did a similar thing in valparaiso / viña del mar. Enjoy your year, it will be amazing! Come over, find a local school that you like the look of (I advise looking for one with lots of kids artwork, that's rare and means the s...

Re: House insurance

We had contents insurance through Chilena Consolidada (Zurich). We made a claim, had no issue with it (paid in full, timely, no premium increase in the following year). We paid an annual premium so as to lessen the number of trips to their offices, and communication was generally via email. They wou...

Re: Lost PDI Cert, also renewing Professional Visa

Is this the cert of registration of your visa? Can't you just go and reapply? We always kept copies and once lost one of the originals but it seemed the copy sufficed. We were told (by the lawyers handling the new visa application) that if the copy was not accepted by extranjeria my hubby would have...
