Re: Paying for property/moving funds into Chile

If you're from the USA, don't think of a notary in Chile as someone with a stamp working at the UPS store or the AAA. A Chilean notary is part legal clerk/paralegal, escrow agent, and government official. It's a profession.

Re: RUT Number

NW was not hostile or arrogant. He was clarifying the situation. Is it possible the seller helped you obtain a RUT and you thought it was assigned without an application?

Re: Philanthropy Starting In Chile

The poverty line in the USA for a family of 4 is equivalent to approximately 1.5 Million CLP monthly. Even being poor in the USA is expensive. The communists ruined Chile before the 1970's. They're still trying. The Chilean Military committed an act of terrorism in the USA during the 1970's as well....

Do you want to help people live according to how you think or feel? Who are you to tell people how to live? What conceit!!!
I can only imagine the strings you'll attach to every peso you distribute...along with a selfie.

Re: chile real estate property taxes can be paid online now.

We tried to pay property tax from the USA as well. It would not accept my credit card. We currently rely on my wife's aunt to take care of the payments, but this may be a better long term method. Thank you for this very helpful post.

Parkinsons Disease

Does anyone have any advice for someone just diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease wishing to live in Chile? My wife's aunt, in her 70's, is currently living in NYC but thinking of returning to Chile received her diagnosis a few weeks ago. Most of her family is in Concepcion. If anyone can recommend a ...

Regardless of how well they travel, you're going to have a difficult time. Street dogs may not bother them, but even dogs that have owners are not well socialized. They are very territorial within their boundaries. We took our maltese to Chile and whenever we visited friends or family, we spent most...

Can't wait to see how all that particle board and glued laminate will hold up. Then, of course, there are the assembly instructions that are only drawings.

Re: Can a Chilean (non-resident) use a foreign driving licence in Chile?

Obtain an International Drivers License. All you need is a valid local license and a passport type photo. In the USA the AAA does this.
Carry the International license with your local license. I've done this multiple times, stopped twice and had no problems.

Re: US cell phone use

Go on AT&T's web site. Usually you have to access a local company first. It's just a matter of dialing a few numbers. Consider buying a cheap phone or a local SIM for local calls and texts. Phone charges add up fast. You may also pay both ways internationally. Think of all the folks who will call yo...

Always remember this site is owned and sponsored by a Chilean law firm. You're almost in the right place. Call the number at the bottom of the screen.

Re: Higher quality ceiling fans?

Chile generates electricity at 50 HZ. Make certain the motor is rated that way. If the motor is rated at 60 HZ, like the electricity produced in the USA, for example, it will hum and not last long.
Ditto for vacuums, hair dryers, power tools, etc.
