Re: TPP and the Pacific Alliance

Did you notice that offhand comment about "....policymakers banning cash..."? One wonders whether the author considered the implications. The context indicates it could be a response to the public stashing cash under the mattress in response to negative interest rates. Does that sound like a bank r...

Re: DHL/FEDEX cost of shipping

Air express rates have gone up and are crazy high to/from some countries. We recently shipped a package from the U.S. to Poland via FedEx (Int'l Economy service). It had a dimensional weight of 85 pounds, but the actual weight was only 45 pounds. The cost was $1216, and at first I balked, but the cu...

South of the left/right craziness and north of the beauty. What a horrible place to be trapped! :)

Your e-commerce mind is living in Santa Clara, CA. Chile's delivery infrastructure operates like someone living in Animas, NM.

Re: Sent to Antarctica

Looks like fun. Beware, what appear to be penguins are actually Google drones doing a street view mapping run and cribbing passwords from the routers on the Chinese base. Those poor women will soon suffer endless targeted ads for wine coolers, basketball nets, and picture frames.

I'm old enough to remember when the Chinese derided the U.S. as a unwanted "hegemon", meddling in the affairs of far away places.

Copper is way below its 200 DMA and the 50 DMA is headed down. You know what they say about catching a falling knife.

Re: 7,000 Plus Chilean Dairy Cows Shipped to China

I laughed when I saw this and thought do Chileans like beef jerky? All of the jerky in stores of the northern empire now comes from China. Somehow in today's world it makes financial sense to send animals to China, feed them, slaughter them, process the meat, package the stuff, and ship it back acr...

Re: Solution for buying bus ticket RUTless and remotely

What, they don't take Bitcoin? :D PayPal might work for a week or two, but my guess is they will soon "fix" this issue by doing an address check on the PP account. That is how they reject foreign credit cards, even with a valid RUT. Is it possible the police and bus companies see this issue in a dif...

Re: Wondering about some nitty gritty details about living in Chile

In the northern empire we have round and elongated seats, Chile adds the option of a shape I liken to square. :D If your heated washlet is made for 120V, don't bring it to Chile. It won't fit on the square toilet bowl and plugging it in will transform heated to creamated.

Re: There she blows!!! 600 CLP to the dollar, nov. 21, 2014

No worries, Chile can borrow whatever money it needs to support the price of copper and stabilize the exchange rate. That is how "modern" economies generate "growth" and "wealth". So jump on board, follow the path of progress and soon you will have a Starbucks on every corner, a Goldman Sachs approv...
