Re: Going under the knife

Hi Bob, Sorry to hear your Achillies woes. The only input I have is that even in Australia, when I needed a knee reconstruction, I took the time to write "not this knee" on the good leg! Even the best surgeons can stuff up the basics occasionally. As everyone else has said, I have only ever heard go...

Re: Questions about Pain in the Neck

Basically, a Kinestesiologist is the same as a physio in Western/Enflish speaking countries. In my own experience, I needed a Paediatric Physio for my son who was born premature and has Cerebral Palsy. The Kinesesiologist clinic that we visited were Allied Health Professionals. Not "pseudo-science"....

Re: Gifts or Souvenirs for upcoming Chile trip

Ricky-San, depending on the nationality of those you will visit, lollies/candies, tea bags, tinned baked beans, TimTams, Vegemite, Marmite, weet-bix, Reece's peanut butter cups etc would all go over well. Like our new friend WestCoast says, declare honestly, and hope for the best. I too have never ...

Re: We'll be in Chile, ya mismo!

All the best Keith. Some love Chile. Some don't. All learn something about the world! How old are your kids? They are going to dictate much of your social life. I have some friends still in Chile and depending on kid-age and your profession, it might be worth fostering an intro. Let the forum know y...

Re: taking and using foreign currencies in Argentina

Anyone have recent experience with cash/FX in Argie? I have Aussie friends flying to BA from the USA in January. Do you advise taking USD or trying to get some Argie Pesos prior, or just relying on the ATM's?

Re: Not moving to Chile

Yep, even Australia gets earthquakes occasionally. (mind you, in Aus a 3.0 makes the news, even though it only vaguely rattles some shelves, so you can assume we are pretty safe from "the big one". However, in 1989' the city of Newcastle suffered a 5.9 which killed 13 people -most in the one buildin...

Re: High gun ownership makes countries less safe?

The thing I find compelling in these myriad discussions, is that it is the citizens of the USA who are completely sh&t-scared of a random knock on the door. How many times do we read about someone being shot by a householder because they had knocked on a door for help? If there is a random knock on ...

Re: Fitflops Uk

Fit Flops. Bwahahhaha. I just can't get rid of the mental picture of some fat Aussie guy wearing zinc on the nose, going for a jog with a meat pie inline hand and a can of beer in the other, possibly with a cricket bat also in hand (I will be camping next to this guy next week on the Goldie) (that i...

Re: pirate DVDs

Yep, same in Bali. Fixed stores doing deals like 15 for approx $10.00 Aus. Managed to get the whole first series of Grimm for $1.00 even though it was across 5 discs. (the whole practice is dodgy, but I highly recommend that series as a bit of fun after a long day) Maybe if Hollywood paid actors wha...

Re: Pregnant with no insurance in Chile

Quick question to the OP: how easily did your mother labour and birth you and any siblings? This is a good indicator of any help you may need/difficulties you will experience/complications that may arrise. (not foolproof, but worth considering) If you come from generations of robust and vigorous bir...
