Re: Global Economy, recession, depression, or...

I am only just starting to get to a place where I am saving and thinking of the future more, unfortunately.

Re: Global Economy, recession, depression, or...

I don't have any money in gold or metals. My only investments are my 401k, which I don't touch (with Vanguard) and around 30k cash. Most of the cash is in a savings account that is actually NOT 1% even, but 0.35%. The money I would invest now would need to be liquid enough to get out in emergency. I...

Re: Global Economy, recession, depression, or...

Outside of a 401k that is totally invested in a Vanguard vehicle for retirement in like 25 years, I don't have investments and haven't ever done it before. I have done some reading but never dipped my toe in. I also don't have tons of funds. I have around 20k in a "high yield savings account" that g...

Re: America on Fire

So police may act with impunity but not the common citizen. Got it. I also love how these peaceful protests are judged by very few violent acts (mostly against property) yet the police force is “just a few bad apples” we shouldnt judge the police state by. At least in USA there is t A constantly shi...

Re: America on Fire

Yes, I think the political/economic aspect of this is what caused such a huge breaking out of unrest. It doesn't help when the president taunts and threatens and uses racists dogwhistles rather than being a leader. We are in Boston and it was quiet here and pretty peaceful. Something about all of wh...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

we have been avoiding the big super markets completely by using Jumbo delivery. few kinks in getting them to find our adress in the campo, one broken bottle of wine, but otherwise has been pretty good. Think we got the major kinks worked out now. we might never go back to shopping at the grocery st...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

Does anyone have a good resource to point me towards to try to get up to speed on politics in Chile? Spanish sources are fine. I've been trying to read the news more thoroughly, but I miss the importance of a lot of it because I can't place names/parties/etc very well just yet. Sad, after living in ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

There is some nuance you are willfully looking over. Our usual natural rights vs potentially infecting a community with a dangerous and lethal virus, which can take more lives and cause more damage to property and life in other ways as well. You are, under the current conditions, doing harm to the b...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

What do folks think will be a good window of time for remigration to Chile? We have been in Boston the last year. We are hoping to go back to Chile finally in November/December. Possibly a little earlier. I am hoping we can time it for when there's a lull.. even if there isn't, the alternative is wa...
