Re: A Near Miss

"Invite dictatorship"? By this logic, the US should invite dictatorship in the 30s because of the poorly running capitalism. Luckily, there were no other country's secret services who could write an invitation. When things get really, really bad, people naturally look for the Man on the White Horse...

Re: A Near Miss

Regulating the market is not "socialism" unless you are capturing somebody's means of production in the process. You can be on the deed for a piece of property and yet not really own it. Land contract and contract for deed (google it if interested) situations illustrate the point. Bottom line: If t...

Re: A Near Miss

And don't forget that these "has to do with the culture" countries were not wasting 17 years in a dictatorship. The Germans only "wasted" 12 in one. But being as efficient as they are, I'd say they got quite a bit done. They then managed to build a very prosperous & stable thing shortly thereafter....

Re: A Near Miss

I had read the post a few times and missed the sarcasm. Never had an issue discerning it from straight the horse’s mouth :) I've taken a few things literally online that were not meant that way as well....nuance is easier to miss in brief, written posts. Rolling eyes and sardonic inflection are abs...

Re: A Near Miss

I was in fact being sarcastic. But cold beverages can still be arranged assuming you can tolerate lots of sarcasm and all around "offensiveness".

Re: The Trump Administration

Leftists are against sexual predators when they run as Republicans. When it is one of their own, "feminist" leftists do what it takes to stay in power. Think Bill Clinton. That sort of power mongering at the price of principles lowers the bar. Many Republicans figure that they might as well support ...

Re: A Near Miss

Most everything works well in Denmark, Finland & Norway. Has to do with the culture. They do capitalism better. They do education better. They do socialism better. They do not do as well with protecting their citizens from foreign invaders, too small...it's that same smallness which allows for a tig...

Re: A Near Miss

I mentioned this post to Carolina. Her response: "I have talked to a number of Venezuelans who have fled to Chile. They all said the same thing: Chile is ruining a good thing. They are becoming more like Venezuela." Oddly, I have a number of Russian immigrant contacts who say the same thing about th...

Re: A Near Miss

Fraggle, Thanks for the news. Sounds like the CFPB in the States - vast power, no accountability. Essentially a dictatorial body for our own good. And one that can crush any small business at a whim. Throw in some Latin culture and we have "winner, winner, chicken dinner". Add this (if it ultimately...

We are grateful for your contribution. We can assure you with 100 % of accuracy that we do not care. Have a great day. Likely true that 99% of the readers do not care. I will somehow find a way to live with that. Surely (yet more) therapy will be involved. Which means I will not be able to afford (...

Deporting Another Stinker

Youngest Stinker will be in Chile right after the new year, going to school in Vina. Different school this time. St. Margaret's struck us as good but somewhat overrated academically. It is "the elite" as far as social status is concerned, but that really is not a factor for us. Paperwork has been ea...
