Re: Introduction

Also, YouTube of Chilean news stations will often have closed captioning in Spanish (excluding live broadcasts). Although they are not always accurate, I find them useful. You can speak along with the broadcast. Also, they can be played at reduced speed and repeated easily so that the really difficu...

Re: Introduction

I agree reading can be great. What helps me is to go off tangent when reading. For instance, if you are reading about a certain road, start saying in Spanish something like when I was there, it was a blue road. Why is it black now? I’m going to go there and paint it blue... Or contradict whatever yo...

Do you think contacting SERNAC would give you leverage with the seller, assuming you prefer to return it?

Re: Teaching At Universities in Chile

If you are a Bernie Sanders supporter, you may fit in... I often hear that it is who you know that makes a difference. First ask EVERY single person at every university that you work with if they know ANYONE at a Santiago university. Maybe they do and that may get things started. Or wait six hours f...

Re: Corona Virus!

[start rant] It is correct that in one season there were 8,200 deaths in the USA due to flu. What should be said in my opinion is that many are preventable but people here are basically extremely selfish and don’t mind spreading the disease to others. Grocery store checkers have the flu but keep wor...

Re: Getting a Chilean Driving License

Here is an interesting web site with tips on practicing the "psicotécnico" part of the driving exam. It mentions new tests of 2020 but I wouldn't know what is actually new. It even references a free google app for practicing but I'm not using an android phone at the moment. There are weird tests ref...

Re: Building house in Chile the "gringo" way

@KDnR Will you be doing the electrical portion? I am curious as to the power outlets used in new homes. There is the two prong "C" outlet at 2.5 amps, a 10 amp "L" outlet with a similar width to the "C" with a ground, and the wider 16 amp outlet, also called "L" but with thicker pins. Some outlets c...

Re: macal auction January 28th, 2020 11 a.m.

With the current 1 usd = 788 pesos (XE.com), which is about 20% higher (weaker to USD) than one year ago, are the majority of properties appreciating or just holding their USD values? Looking at the one year peso chart, the protests caused a big peak but a weak peso seems to be part of a long term t...
