Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

I saw yesterday’s Plaza Italia protest through a YouTube live stream on T13. The archived stream is still listed. There is currently a protest streaming from “plaza de dignidad” from left voice on YouTube . Yesterday I watched for a minute while a group was trying to pull down a light pole and then ...

Useful Wage Reforms - Suggestions?

Maybe minimum wages need to be raised and work week reduced but let's keep an open mind and maybe see the need to make multiple wage reforms, which balance both employee and employer needs. If everyone's minimum wage is increased, will Chilean customer service and customer & employer satisfaction im...

Re: Chilean Media Links

Due to a 6 link limit per post, the hyperlinks are text. You must copy the portion between the parenthesis and paste into your browser address bar. Newspapers & News Sites To get a current issue, bookmark the generic web site address rather than a redirected address, which often points to a specific...

Chilean Media Links

Hopefully this can start a list of various "Media" available to those outside of Chile, in order to learn more about Chile. As others contribute sites, an updated list can be reposted.

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Can anyone recommed any decent Chilean papers that publish an internet version without astronomical monthly charges? Some charge more than the NYT! Thanks. Go to Headlinespot dot com and select Chile as the country of interest. Most of the papers listed are free to view but I don’t know if they mee...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Outside of Chile, most Chilean TV broadcasts are blocked or don't stream that well. From the USA, I can see a couple of Chilean news stations (low res) by going to the wwitv site. (I can't post the exact link) There is a link to 24 Horas and a new station called "Mega Noticias". The Mega channel sho...

Re: There goes the neighborhood!!! Peru, Ecuador, etc.

At the risk of receiving all sorts of verbal abuse, i would like to chip in a bit about ecuador. I visited for admittedly only a few weeks when Correa was president. I went to Quito Cuenca Otavalo Guayaquil and the Gallapagoes. Every where I went there was construction, especially roads and bridges...

Re: Spanish is hard

I improved my Spanish "hearing" skills a lot by listening to music while looking at the words. Hopefully you can find Spanish-language songs that you like or that are on the radio a lot. If you google the song and the artist, you will often be able to listen to the song and tab over to the lyrics. W...

Re: No single person food service businesses?

@at46 Your post got me searching for regulations as you mentioned with “artesanal”. So far I found one that came out this year for I think sidewalk vendors. Not exactly applicable to me, but I will keep looking. It probably does relate to sidewalk vendors selling limited items. I’ll have to read mor...

Re: No single person food service businesses?

Hi Admin, When I've read general food laws, they would be very general and require actions which prevent risk of contamination. So, gloves or outerwear could be one solution. The Chile law specifically pointed out personnel handling food should not handle money, followed by a clarification and then ...

Re: TV/Music - free use in a business

Thanks for the replies on music. Cover Bands sound like a reasonable solution for music.

Does anyone know about TV? Isn't everyone required to show football games endlessly?

No single person food service businesses?

Hola, Another legal question... In the USA, there are some very small restaurant counters with one person, who takes money and cooks food. From this forum, some say that there are excess workers at some places. Does this law strictly forbid someone who does food handling (like prep work or cooking) ...
