Re: USA Citizen Married To a Chilean Wanting to Move to Chile

Yeah, PDI these days is just swamped with immigrants (not just the PDI obviously). If it's possible to do some paperwork in a town outside of Santiago, it's usually advisable.........it could make the experience faster and less painful.

Re: Chile Immigration Reform and the Spouse Visa

There's always been talk about changing immigration law, including from the current administration, but until a law is actually approved and signed, it's just talk. The old law is still current. The admin here knows plenty about the topic.

Re: Housing market situation

whereas "secondly whether I can even get a mortgage as a foreign contractor paid in another currency" is probably going to take a lot longer and involve traveling into town, queueing in the bank only to be told so and so is unexpectedly in the other location today, trying to find out how to get my ...

Re: USA Citizen Married To a Chilean Wanting to Move to Chile

My information may be outdated, as it has been a few years, but as a US citizen with permanent residency in Chile and married to a Chilena, in my experience there never was a "marriage visa." I've seen this term "marriage visa" thrown around a few times with this particular thread and what I got bef...

Re: Chile: second run

yea, if your residency expired, then you got to start over. I don't know how I missed this thread before, but it should be mentioned that there was/is a way to obtain residency again if you have already lived in Chile before. When I came (back) to Chile in 2011, I applied and obtained my temp visa ...

Re: Looking for the best City for my Family

I am leaving The States for 2-3 years and looking for a great city for my family. I have a wife, 2 kids that both speak Spanish decently well (the oldest near fluent), and are looking for a coastal (scenic if possible), mid-sized city with a good school for our kids and access to good health care. ...

Re: Venezuela crisis

I do find the whole, "America is supporting the Venezuela people" thing to be B.S. America is only supporting them now, because Venezuela has defaulted on most of its bonds and the Oil has stopped flowing in any significant amount. The U.S. placing sanctions on Venezuelan oil exports, is pretty mea...

Re: Paying taxes for work done internationally

Ironically enough I am in a similar situation (permanent resident for years in Chile, eligible to apply for citizenship, have a main job locally, now have a side job earning income online outside of Chile). Since my side job is paid in dollars and those dollars go to a US bank account (and never ent...
