Re: Ski Season Los Lagos

In my opinion, you should try La Parva. It is my favourite place of all. You will definitely have a fantastic time there. That has got to be spam. In fact, let me help you with that. here is there web site: https://www.laparva.cl Everyone have a look at the photos, and how they are super tight, at ...

Re: Ski Season Los Lagos

If you do go to Lonqimay, I recommend staying at Andenrose in Curacautin (right on the route to the mountain). The owner Hans is a fantastic cook and they have central heat, plenty of hot water and a big masonry stove (kachelofen) imported from Europe. Lonquimay is the volcano that my brothers and ...

Codelco? Yeah I've heard good things about it too, but now I think we're not talking about skiing :D

Re: Ski Season Los Lagos

Earlier this year (first week of May) I stayed with my brothers (visiting from the US) 2 nights in Malalcahuello, which is in the IX region but not nearly as well known as Pucon/Villarrica. It does have a bit more altitude since it's a mountain valley, and it turns out that there's a ski resort just...

Sorry about that, man. It’s like a Groundhog’s Day here: a newcomer arrives, gets undeserved hostility, then the discussion propels into a quarrel about the toxic behavior of a few forum members.

What a waste of everybody’s time.
Agreed, and unfortunate.

Re: Waiting for permanencia response - updates?

Back in 2012, when I had a temporary visa that was expiring and applied for permanent residency, I let the 1 year visa expire and had to walk around with and occasionally present the letter I received that acknowledge that my long term residency was "in tramite." While it is an annoyance, generally ...

Re: Rent out or sell half of duplex

Checking in for a quick update, in case someone comes across this thread in the future. I opted to rent, and six months in (admittedly a very short time), all seems well. BUT - I made that choice based on a recommended local rental agent. She seems very good, and since my mother has also passed in ...

Re: Guide to validating education for a driving license

Dang, this is pretty complete. I already have my Chilean driving license, but if I didn't and was looking to obtain one, I think I'd be baking you a "queque" right now :D

I guess by your definition, Puente Alto is a "normal" municipality.

Re: Housing market situation

Yeah Vitacura, Las Condes, and the like is definitely not your "average Chilean market." Well, grouping together the Eastern comunas you reach about 750,000 inhabitants or about 10% of Santiago population. Perhaps not average, but not super exclusive either. Well assuming the 750k number is correct...

Re: Housing market situation

Yeah Vitacura, Las Condes, and the like is definitely not your "average Chilean market." Even if I could afford it, I doubt that's where I'd look for residential property, either for living or as an "investment"........not at today's prices anyway. Commercial office space is something I'm not famili...

Re: New requirement for a "residence certificate" for temporary residency?

While what the admin says above is absolutely true, the "junta de vecinos" is usually the go-to authority for producing the documents here known as a "certificado de domicilio" or "residencia". It's basically just a paper that says someone verified that you really live in the neighborhood and munici...
