Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

I saw nothing in the videos that suggested that rampant destruction was occurring--no burning buildings, no assaults and mayhem, no vandalism. Clearly you have not been anywhere near Centro or la Moneda. Or Plaza Italia. I think he was just referring to Reñaca at the moment that the John Cobin inci...

Which is really weird, given their "750 is the ceiling" speech. Whoever depends on importing supplies or exporting gotta is going to be shafted real hard.
Like I said before, just because they might be willing, doesn't ensure that they have the ability.

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

No, I didn't say they blocked him, he just refused to play their game and kept driving, at one point there's the voice of a guy that yells "matenlo!" in that video (maybe overheard that and it set him off), but it's pretty evident that his life was not in danger and that anyone in his situation with...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

So this guy is clueless about Chile and sorry but as a European he comes off as a almost cartoon stereo tyoe American, doesn't know other countries are different, thinks he can pull a gun out to defend himself against a crowd of unarmed people and wants everyone to pray for him, when he is the susp...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Mem, it's not like Piñera has come out and said let's move minimum wage to 400/475/550 by now/2020/2021, and give a guaranteed pension of 200 minimum to everyone by next year. If he did that and it has been rejected by the legislature, you might have a point. But he hasn't made any such proposals h...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Ok what? What could pinera do just himself without any cooperation from legislature? No, he can't do it by himself. That's the point. He needs to co-operate with others, and not just the people from his own coalition. Chile Vamos CANNOT solve this crisis by themselves. They need to demonstrate a wi...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Does anyone think that there is anything that Pinera could do or say, just himself without legislature cooperation, that would put a stop to all looting and burning across the country? I think it's quite obvious he could be doing more. He is in a position similar to de Klerk in South Africa. He has...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

well, I don't know how to even say this, or where to start; but, I also feel the obligation to convey this information. For those that do not know, new to the forum, etc, we have some deep political contacts with both the left and the right governments in chile. I simply don't talk about it much, a...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

well, pinera seems to want to spank the protesters with increased penalties for protesters. kind of closing the barn door after the horses escaped. sure to annoy the left. https://www.biobiochile.cl/noticias/nacional/chile/2019/11/07/pinera-anuncia-agenda-de-seguridad-publica-con-proyectos-de-ley-c...

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

whacking your kid's butt with a wooden spoon every now and then shouldn't produce any sort of long term trauma. If that were the case, my entire family would be a bunch of traumatized people, but I'd say they turned out pretty good. Just my two cents. The "I turned out OK" argument is a fairly weak...

so these guys are projecting a 7% strengthening of the peso in 2020, if the protests are halted.
Who is?

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Experts, such as child psychologists and parenting experts and others who have built a career out of it, are almost unanimous in opposing not only physical violence to children but even shouting at them. I am not even talking about a moral argument but the fact that it doesn't work. There have been...
