Re: Venezuela crisis
I do find the whole, "America is supporting the Venezuela people" thing to be B.S. America is only supporting them now, because Venezuela has defaulted on most of its bonds and the Oil has stopped flowing in any significant amount. The U.S. placing sanctions on Venezuelan oil exports, is pretty mea...

Re: Paying taxes for work done internationally
Ironically enough I am in a similar situation (permanent resident for years in Chile, eligible to apply for citizenship, have a main job locally, now have a side job earning income online outside of Chile). Since my side job is paid in dollars and those dollars go to a US bank account (and never ent...

Re: Ski Season Los Lagos
If you do go to Lonqimay, I recommend staying at Andenrose in Curacautin (right on the route to the mountain). The owner Hans is a fantastic cook and they have central heat, plenty of hot water and a big masonry stove (kachelofen) imported from Europe. Lonquimay is the volcano that my brothers and ...

Re: Ski Season Los Lagos
Earlier this year (first week of May) I stayed with my brothers (visiting from the US) 2 nights in Malalcahuello, which is in the IX region but not nearly as well known as Pucon/Villarrica. It does have a bit more altitude since it's a mountain valley, and it turns out that there's a ski resort just...

Re: Waiting for permanencia response - updates?
Back in 2012, when I had a temporary visa that was expiring and applied for permanent residency, I let the 1 year visa expire and had to walk around with and occasionally present the letter I received that acknowledge that my long term residency was "in tramite." While it is an annoyance, generally ...

Re: Rent out or sell half of duplex
Checking in for a quick update, in case someone comes across this thread in the future. I opted to rent, and six months in (admittedly a very short time), all seems well. BUT - I made that choice based on a recommended local rental agent. She seems very good, and since my mother has also passed in ...

Re: Guide to validating education for a driving license
Dang, this is pretty complete. I already have my Chilean driving license, but if I didn't and was looking to obtain one, I think I'd be baking you a "queque" right now
I guess by your definition, Puente Alto is a "normal" municipality.
