Re: Chile Borders Closed for 30 days, citizens and residents included

On the evening radio news there was someone from government saying the way things are going this will be an extended ban on international travel, mainly due to all the partying pendejos and cuicos bringing in all sorts of strains and not respecting travel protocols or anything. Don't know if this is...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Chile has vaccinated less than half of educational staff, and only a couple of weeks ago did those that did get vaccinated get their first dose. If they had waited just one more month to open, immunity would have built up in that population, and they would have averted the political trainwreck that...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

It's 2 schools that are affected, out of how many thousands? It's two outbreaks on schools for now . I'm willing to bet numbers will be higher in a couple of weeks, the same way they have been in other countries that opened schools opened while infections were high. I think the govt made the right ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I wonder what the families of - say - high blood pressure patients will think about when their relatives die between two weeks ago (when teachers were prioritized) and March 8 (the estimated date in which they'll begin to be vaccinated). I wonder if it was really necessary to prioritize teachers, g...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

I think the majority of Chileans supported the protests at the time... Some of Pinochets biggest supporters were the poor and working classes because he cracked down on criminals. So watch this space I guess. That would fit the profile of my wife's parents. One of my cuñados is very anti-Pinochet a...

https://www.emol.com/noticias/Economia/2021/03/01/1013541/Imacec-enero-2021-31.html Economy takes a bigger hit than expected in January, 3.1 percent fall . Not actually that surprising to be honest, it is bigger than expected, guess the number crunchers were too optimistic, lot of areas been hit har...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

I think the majority of Chileans supported the protests at the time (in fact this is almost beyond dispute) and likely still would in retrospect. However, if you asked them whether they supported protests starting up again I think response would be more mixed now. But...the protests were started by...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

I've always wondered: why is everyone that is opposed to this or any other neoliberal government a 'commie' and a 'flaite'? would appreciate a serious, respectful and hopefully non cynical response. I lived in central Santiago during the 2019 unrest, and all I have to say is that, after witnessing ...

Re: The Big Patagonia Resettlement Idea

Could this be why the thousand of people want to come here instead of fixing the mess there? https://www.npr.org/2021/02/24/967376880/new-evidence-shows-fertile-soil-gone-from-midwestern-farms?fbclid=IwAR3YnDRBXxJA09ffn2-8_Oyh_E-cFcArE9LeVCEr12vaRzUtLDnkNTezL1M No surprises there, the way it is so ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

well, the migration crisis vs. public health crisis saga continues. https://www.emol.com/noticias/Nacional/2021/02/11/1011912/Cancilleria-Vacunas-Migrantes.html the government is saying that to be eligible for a vaccine, anyone that is "irregular" in the country simply needs to apply for fixing the...
