Re: Legalizing a UK Degree Certificate for Chilean Purposes

Yes, Chile signed up to the Hague Convention taking effect in August 2016. THEORETICALLY an apostille is all that should be required (attained from the Foreign Office in Milton Keynes in the UK), without the need to take the document on to the Chilean consulate in London. However...... this is Chile...

Legalizing a UK Degree Certificate for Chilean Purposes

Has anyone from the UK done this process recently? I understand there may have been some changes since August 2016 viz a viz the steps required, which previously included having to attend the Chilean Consulate in London (once the Foreign Office legalized the Degree Certificate in the UK). Is the cra...

Re: Getting a Driver's License

To conclude the driving licence saga, one year on.... Having received my permanent visa (and cedula) I could then return to the driving licence centre to renew my very-out-of-date Chilean driving licence. I had to sit the medical and physical tests again (but not the theory test, nor practical drivi...

Re: ATM fee

Not for the feint-hearted, but one of the 'cheapest' ways to bring money into the country seems to be (personally I've not yet tried it) by buying a cryptocurrency such as bitcoin or ethereum using USD/Euros/GBP etc through an online (reputable) broker such as kraken.com, then selling the cryptocurr...

Re: Getting a Driver's License

PS don't know why the (banned site) was banned. Sorry. didn't know. As for leaving the country, I had the unhappy experience of trying to leave (having paid for the expensive ticket, gone to the airport etc etc.) and not being allowed to board the plane. The situation was that my permancia definiti...

Re: Jobs besides teaching english

Milesmcc - I think you've had a fair range of comments from the negative/realistic to the positive/realistic. You shouldn't be left in much doubts. I agree with all of them to varying extents. But, we make our own way in this world. Getting in with gringos who own properties down there should assist...

Re: Getting a Driver's License

As previously posted in this thread. The simple facts of the case being that I was informed that my newly acquired (Aug 16) driving licence could only remain valid until the date my temporary visa expired (when the purpose of taking the test prior to it expiring was to ensure I was all valid for whe...

Re: Getting a Driver's License

Update on my driving licence saga, successfully obtained in August 2016 with simply a legalized degree certificate to prove education level, if you recall from my earlier posts on this thread, only to have the licence valid for 3 days as my temporary visa expired 3 days after taking the test. I can'...

Re: ATM fee

I think Banco Bice still provides free ATM withdrawals for UK credit cards (eg: Halifax Clarity, Santander Zero). Last tested around a month ago.

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

I have not really had problems with deposit money being returned to me from 3 rental properties in the last 3 years. I may have been lucky, and I may be a tad niaive, but I believe that if you as the tenant are decent with the landlord, pay your rent on time, look after the property, admit damage wh...

Re: ATM fee

Does anyone know of a bank account in the US that a non-US resident or citizen could 'get away with' opening? i.e. no requirement for US SSN, but providing a family member's address there won't be an issue.
