Re: Work Visa Expires Soon, Awaiting Temporary Visa

Thank you all. That's great. My only scheduled travel will be to Isla de Pascua at the end of January. I hope that works out ok. Have you been able to get through on the 600 486 3000 phone line at all? Oh, and how do you know when your envelope has been opened? I have called them before, it is pret...

Re: Work Visa Expires Soon, Awaiting Temporary Visa

Hello. My work visa expires on January 11, 2019. I got married in Chile to a Chilean woman on January 20, 2018 and filed for a temporary spousal visa in late October 2018. Tracking the mail shows that it was received and picked up in Plaza de Armas on November 5, 2018. However, the Auto Consulta we...

La Serena

Thinking about moving to La Serena, visited there a couple of times and really enjoyed it. Overall it seems like a nice place to live. I am interested in purchasing a house, but not sure where exactly are the better parts of town to look. Normally I stay in San Joaquin, which is very nice, but I wou...

Re: Waiting for permanencia response - updates?

You do not have to leave, your receipt from correos chile is a valid document for proving your visa application is in tramite until the letter from the extranjería stating so arrives. From my understanding its about 3 months right now. An update: I went to the post office to verify that my solicitat...

Re: Changing temporary visa type?

I have a related question. I have a temp visa for professionals and I have had it for 10 month and I want to apply fo permanent residency. However, in my last job I had a clause in my contract saying I would pay my AFP cotizaciones to my fund in my home country but neither I nor my employer ever di...

AFP has nothing to do with immigration status.
Extranjería requires you to submit your cotizaciones de AFP and Salud if you apply for permanent residency as dependent of employer.

Re: chile's migration crisis

Admin, my understanding is that a change to the immigration laws has been brought up by the government several times over the years, they make a big show of things with the regularization of your status and what not, but then eventually the topic just falls to the wayside. Do you think that is what ...

Re: Using security deposit as last month's rent?

I was under the impression that if just about any document was not notarized, that it was not considered legal? Jobs, cars, real estate all required a notary at some point along the process. If that is the case you could just leave whenever you wanted. Everyone I know, chilean and foreign have told ...

Re: chaos in PDI

I now need to renew my carné and hence need the certficado de viajes. 5 years ago, I got this without a long wait, but at the moment at least, it seems basically impossible unless you are prepared to sleep outside on the street, the night before . I turned up this morning and found that I was one o...
