Re: Chilean government Immigration "appointment" system

Chiming in on this thread: I've recently requested an appointment through PDI's website, but I haven't heard back from them since 3 weeks ago. I've checked their website already to make sure it didn't go to my spam box, they really haven't assigned me a cita yet. Has anyone registered their visa at...

Re: Housing market situation

yea, I was at the puerto montt airport, saturday afternoon, and it was a zoo. Saturday is almost never busy at that airport in the off season. Friday might be busy. Sunday might be busy. never Saturday. I am betting by the end of February, prices on houses, parcels, around the lake see at least a 3...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

Fun side story: I'm currently working on a move to an apartment in Las Condes to avoid the protests close by, and I had some amusing interactions with real estate agents. I'm the director of an US insurance brokerage firm, and I get paid a very decent salary on my US account. However, the real esta...

Re: Chile Political and Social Crisis 2019

I may go back to the US next year due to a job offer. Tired of not being able to sign a work contract here due to my cedula being expired and perm residency application in tramite for almost a year in a half. If I do stay I will move to another region or to somewhere in the outskirts of santiago.

Re: Chilean private schools compared to good US public schools

I think it also depends on what level classes you take in the states. For example, if you were taking all honors-level classes, they certainly weren’t “glorified babysitting,” hence why my experience was so good. But I remember hearing about classes that were designed specifically for those who had...

Re: Chilean private schools compared to good US public schools

I always felt that public school in the states was just glorified babysitting. Even the private christian academy that I went to for my senior year of high school was not much different, just stricter rules and better food. No children yet, but would probably consider home schooling.

I believe you're right. I'll create an account at Reserva de Horas PDI and give it a shot.
Maybe you can luckout and get a reservation for all 3 in the same day.

Re: Chile: second run

My temporary visa was approved today. I've scheduled an hour for December 12 to get it estampado, and I'll go to PDI to register it the same day. If I'm REALLY lucky, I may be able to fit Registro Civil the same day, but I'm not counting on that. Hopefully I'll have my new cédula by the beginning o...

Needless to say, this is 100% theoretical. Don't quote me if it doesn't work. Extranjeria changes the procedures on a whim, and they may close this loophole with no notice.
Ah yea, it probably wouldn't work then for those waiting for permanent residency.

It is so temping to do just that, considering how slow the regular system is right now.
Ha, I can totally see people abusing that. It's totally worth it to spend $30 bucks on a one-way ticket to Mendoza to jump the line a couple of months.
Wait so they went ahead and approved your visa?

Re: State of emergency and curfews, October 2019

Right. Things are expensive and families don’t matter all that much. But grown men and women aren’t afraid to take a job in a different city because their mother may cry. But most importantly Americans are optimistic. There is opportunity for everyone and if your educated and organized you will do ...
