Re: Transferring money

Banchile doesn't have a branch in the Banco de Chile in my city. What type of service does Santander have with their mutual fund accounts? Is it comparable to Banchile? Does anyone have experience with Santander?

Re: Work Visa Expires Soon, Awaiting Temporary Visa

I filed for permanencia September 12 and my envelope was opened yesterday! So your trámite shouldn't be too far behind. My wife had to make a trip out of the country while it was pending. PDI did not accept her mail receipt and gave her a tourist visa when she entered. So far that has not affected h...

Re: Chile's Place in Latin America

I have been looking for a property to build a house in Chiloé. The prices have spiked in the last 5 years. I asked one of the better realtors I've dealt with about it. (The bar is pretty low.) He said that the main force behind the price increase is the opening of the airport in Castro. Most of his ...

Re: It's The Bridge To Chiloe Again...

I live in Chiloé and am looking forward to the bridge. It will cut travel time by at least 45 mins. I have friends who know people who have died in an ambulance on the ferry on the way to Puerto Montt.

Re: Waiting for permanencia response - updates?

You can check the status of your solicitud on the extranjería website using your mailing confirmation code. I'm in the same situation. My temporary visa expired and they haven't sent a confirmation letter yet. I'm not worried about it because I mailed the solicitud before my visa expired. Don't beli...

Re: Leaving country while temporary visa in process

Last year I traveled out of the country while my temporary residency visa was en tramite. A couple of weeks before my flight I still had not received word about my status, so I went to the extraneria. He told me my application had been approved and that he should be receiving the paperwork a week af...

Re: US cell phone use

I have a Google Voice number that people in the US can call. I also use it to call US phone numbers. It works great with no charge. You just need to have WiFi or data. When I first arrived in Chile, I was using Google Project Fi which worked on arrival. I didn't have buy a SIM. I think cell calls we...

Re: Chileans travelling on non Chilean passport

My daughter was born in Chile. 10 years ago she traveled out of Chile on her Chilean passport. We returned to Chile last year. Her Chilean passport had expired, so she entered with her US passport with no problem. Once in the country, we got her carnet and passport renewed. It's much easier to do in...

Re: Legalizing Documents

Hello everyone, I am in Chile and am applying for residency again. We lost our permanencias because we've been out of the country for 8 years. The man at the local Gobernacion told me that I needed my kids' birth certificates legalized by the Chilean consulate in Chicago. (I don't require needing th...

Savings accounts

I opened a savings account (cuenta ahorro) at BancoEstado with my temporary visa and my bad spanish, no questions asked. I haven't tried getting an ATM card yet. That's the next task.
