Re: Climate changing in Chile

SUVs (and trucks/camionetas) are selfish cars in every way - you cause more death and suffering per car accident while offering little or no net protection to the inhabitants of your own car, take up more parking space, more road space, more materials in the construction, more pollution, more globa...

Re: rising anti-immigration politics in the Chilean Election

Its very interesting to watch the Chilean sentiment on immigration change. By virtue of being an ExPat over the past 3 years I have had many nationals launch into a diatribe about "the wall" and how awful the idea is. Some of these people I only met for the first time and I hadn't said anything abo...

Re: Chile Wealth, Inequality, and International rankings

Yup I'd say you summed it up. Strange but interesting. I'm not too familiar with the Guardian, I just regularly look for mentions of chile in news aggregator sites. Just when one thinks the Mapuche are getting used to the way things have been for a long time, a relative homeostasis of angst...a fren...

Does anyone have Dogo Argentino dogs?

The Dogos have been mentioned in a few threads. My kids are pressuring me to get a dog which wife and I do not want as we have enough animals to care for as is. So I thought back to the Dogo related comments and thought well if we do get a dog let's get one of those so it is at least serving a long ...

Re: The Pinera administration 2.0

well that sounds like progress. it implies they are thinking about putting someone in prison in the first place. there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of people running around this country with 30, 40, 70+ arrest for robbery and numerous other crimes, that have never seen much more than a few hou...

Re: Generator reccomndations

I'd recommend a Diesel generator that runs at around 1800RPM's. Those are the really good ones. The ones that run at higher RPM's don't have the long term reliability that the 1800 RPM's have. However most of the small portable generators aren't built to last and often run at the higher RPM's. Diese...

Masonry Fireplace - Glass Doors (ceramic glass)

I have a masonry fireplace. I tried to look into putting in a full blown Amesti or Bosca insert int the fireplace, but the damper/chimney uses a zig zag baffle so a tin heat pipe can't go up the chimney...so the insert idea is out. I don't want to start breaking up stone and brick for this That leav...

Re: is growing marijuana legal in Chile

The confusion about Chile and marijuana comes from a 2015 Chilean house bill that passed "In 2015, a bill allowing Chileans to grow up to six plants per home for "medical, recreational or spiritual reasons" passed the lower house of Congress, 68–39, and next goes to the Chilean Senate for vote" So i...

Re: giving away an old car

Good question, I was wondering along similar lines. Like if you have an old car and just want to donate it or get rid of it with as little fuss as possible. I know in the US someone will come and tow away donation cars. Sometimes they give you some money, sometimes you gotta give them some money but...

Apparently generator based Steak Houses are booming in VZ. However when it says "they serve a certain clientele"...yup we know exactly what that means! The polarization of the rich and poor is just accelerating https://www.bloombergquint.com/markets/in-the-great-blackout-caracas-steakhouses-are-busi...
