Re: Vina & China

MJSaywell just giving two anecdotal examples does not suffice, as I would imagine not all coastal cities are at the same level of Tsunami risk. My point was that you made a bit of an off the cuff remark, the coast of Chile covers a huge area. actually now I know you are just wasting my time, and wo...

Re: Vina & China

Jamie_m the whole point of a forum like this is to be a source of information. If the answer to everything is "why are you asking here? Do your own homework?" what is the point of the forum then? Its pretty woeful that a country like Chile which is in the OECD does not have (not just All Chile othe...

Re: Vina & China

Do you have any kind of evidence you can link to that shows tsunamis are a genuine threat in the major coastal cities of Chile? Also can one get quality insurance for this? ummm Feb 2010  ummm Sept 2015 also, up north that time, these are pretty basic things, fresh in most people's min...

Re: Buying property in Chile

At first they were like... It is foolish to buy property in another country, in a culture which language you do not even speak yet, without having lived there for many years. It is not like Australia where you can accurately measure the value of a property against another. You will likely get rippe...

You could probably replace "Viña neighbourhood" he pointed out with "the vast majority of neighbourhoods in Chile"

Re: Buying property in Chile

The chances of that or any other becoming "gentrified" in 3 to 5 years are nil, nada, nothing. It's not like the capital cities of Australia where gentrification happens over time due to strong growth in prices driven by immigration of people with money and huge foreign investment by for example th...

Re: Buying property in Chile

On a general theme, all those people that got sucked in to the idea that good times will continue when Piñera was in power are now starting to realise that this administration has completely screwed them over, 3 years of a slowdown is starting to really squeeze a lot of people now and there are more...

Re: What will surprise me?

Interesting question. The bureaucracy should be no problemo after living in Italy. Nothing really surprises me anymore, although a few things surprise people when I tell them back in NZ what things are like here but that's more other people's lack of knowledge about this long skinny country. Living ...

Re: moving to osorno please help

After reading a few things about what's currently happening in South Africa and seeing what's happening in the world at present, I can also tell you while Osorno is perhaps not the most exciting city in Chile and there is wood smoke pollution in the Winter. You do not have to worry about being attac...
