Re: Electricity costs out in the country

The General Electric gas drier in the hotel last summer, going 12 hours a day a 45g gas bottle lasted 111 days including the gas stove. It depends on the ambient air temperature, now in winter it's about 20% less efficient but still a great decision financially. Same same with the reverse cycle air ...

Re: Electricity costs out in the country

You might consider a micro hydro system Matt. From memory you're on a river?

I googled it and these days it looks pretty straight forward plus far cheaper than an effective wind turbine. The big advantage is it generates 24/7.

Re: chile's migration crisis

Though food poisoning can be memorable "fun" when travelling. In reality it's available just about anywhere, 1st, 2nd or 3rd world countries. A rough tally for myself would be... Australia 3 times, seafood too far from the coast. I'm a sucker for seafood. India 2 times 2 years apart eating the same ...

Re: What would you want with land in Chile ?

Tried that before I posted and the link didn't open for me. Regardless, it's not generally used in professional real estate sales and I've never come across it. Perhaps occasionally used by the more bogan agents who might be found in Queensland. Some'll try anything to flog property and many a buyer...

Re: What would you want with land in Chile ?

Perhaps read your source again Frozen North. It says "attractive agents", it's not gender specific. In the Aust. context I read "attractive agents" as well dressed better than average looking licenced real estate salespersons, male or female. Not some tarted up scantily clad eye candy office decorat...

Re: chile's migration crisis

Interesting... My wife was a little shocked when she got to Australia at what she saw as lax food handling standards. What she didn't know was everyone she was looking at had to pass a food handling course and all local authorities have full time health inspectors regularly dropping in and checking ...

Re: What would you want with land in Chile ?

A cultural quirk. In Western cultures it's taken as a given in the real estate industry that the wife will in most cases have the final say on whether to buy this property or that so having "skimpys" at a property expo is a huge no no.

Re: Searching for best projects.. Opinions Please?

There is a good authentic Thai restaurant in Valdivia run by 3 Thai guys. The story is they jumped off a ship some years back. They say they're from Bangkok but what they serve isn't Royal Thai food, ie. from around Bangkok. My figuring is they're from somewhere inland up North because they steer cl...

Re: Searching for best projects.. Opinions Please?

Chilean sushi, as much as I've tried to come at it ain't Japanese sushi. Apart from the seaweed wrap and rice the combinations have been modified to local tastes and beyond that further bastardised into a local chef's "creations". If it sells, ok for the locals if they like it but I've yet to find t...

Re: Searching for best projects.. Opinions Please?

We recently had a Chilean guest from Santiago who had all the right English teaching qualifications from the US and she couldn't find work, it's a flooded market. Depending on when you arrive in Chile I can connect you with a qualified interpreter (Spanish, English and French) who will be moving bac...
