Re: Buying Gold/Silver Coins

The fake peg / dollars they were printing had just broken, when it became obvious the Argentina ...

Re: Few extra days in Southern Chile

Why not take the bus from Pucon to San Martin de los Andes. It is smaller and much nicer than Bariloche. The views on the route are beautiful. If Panguipulli is on your itinerary, you could do a loop by also using the Hua Hum crossing which involves a short ferry ride. In one and out the other, or ...

Re: Few extra days in Southern Chile

The "long drive" is the best part of visiting Bariloche. Stunning vistas on both sides of border; it's a good trip.

Re: Tractor emissions standards

Last year we imported a Caterpillar with no mention of emissions regulations. We have owned and operated tractors for decades and hands down Cat's are the best for quality, performance, resale and comfort. There is a Mahindra dealer in nearby Puerto Varas, no idea where they are made, I just figure...

Tractor emissions standards

Wasn't sure where to ask this; mods move if warranted. Does anyone know if Chile regulates emissions of farm tractors? I can find references to standards for passenger vehicles and heavy road vehicles but not tractors. I'm curious, because I plan to buy a tractor in Chile soon. In the USA, Tier 4 st...

Re: Brining in gold coins

The purpose of making this public is to provide information to any others that may be considering doing the same. Here's the short version of events: Was advised by many internet sources (I know...) and by my expensive attorney to declare the gold to customs at port of departure, in this case Housto...

Flying into Santiago tomorrow morning. Gonna declare 20, 1-oz. Canadian Gold Maples Leafs ($24,000 US, more or less). We'll see how that goes. I've brought them in undeclared in amounts under $10,000 US several times with no issues.
