Re: Laptop stolen from idiot

It had my laptop and the back up hard drive for my laptop. Four years of digital records of my life, plus all the short stories I wrote in that time frame. The knapsack also had all my financial records for citizenship, bank statements, investment accounts, old cellphone, prescription eyeglasses an...

Re: Global Entry Type Program for Permanent Residents for Expedited Entry at SCL Airport?

Compared to the US or even Europe, there’s barely any security checks in Chilean airports.

Probably that’s why they double-check you before the flights to the US right in the jet bridge lol.

Re: Citizenship, new requirement for time in country

Do you have one? Nothing specified there! There's nothing about the time out of the country in the citizenship simulator: https://extranjeria.chilesinpapeleo.cl/home/index And also nothing in the official requirements from Extranjería's page about naturalization: http://www.extranjeria.gob.cl/media...

Consulates aren’t Extranjería though, better check the actual law.

Re: Opening A Bank Account

Yes, we got into the same problem: neither real estate ownership, nor few millions in the savings accounts in BancoEstado were convincing enough during a cuenta corriente application.

They ask for a job contract or paid taxes if you’re self-employed.

Re: The Pinera administration 2.0

Your link to the free article doesn't work. But I already get the picture that the Rothchild's Economist is bashing Chile on the eve of Pinera's meeting with Trump. After Rothchild's Rio Tinto lost the SQM bid, they chopped the Maersk factory in San Antonio, and still cannot calm down. Sore loosers...

Re: The Pinera administration 2.0

A great overview of the current situation from The Economist: Steering Chile away from the middle-income trap If you are out of free Economist's articles, here's a copy . Some quotes: Growth has recovered partly because copper prices have. Potential growth—the economy’s capacity to grow without infl...

Right, my wife got a Xiaomi and it keeps swallowing notifications and turning screen on randomly. Google’s privacy stance is getting worse and worse meanwhile, they are approaching Facebook’s level of evilness. We’ll just go for the cheapest iPhone next time. I have SE right now and it has produced...

Re: The trade wars, they have begun

If only Huawei wasn’t running this laggy bugfest of Android. I really don’t like the idea of spending over $500 for a phone but all Android devices we had in the last 5 years were crap because of the software.

It’s a shame that Windows Phone was discontinued - my $120 Nоkia Lumia absolutely rocked.

Re: Another security alert

Then, coming from Russia, I shouldn't feel in a strange place ; there is that culture of "crap run companies" here as well, and yes, you quickly are able to spot them from a mile away. I guess that this talent will keep being useful, and yes they're the "cover it up at all costs" kind as well. It's...
