Yes, that US$10,000 has been around even before the 80s I think Canada and the US have the same limit.
Canada's limit is $10,000 Canadian dollars which at today's exchange rate is only $7,438 usd, or about $5 million clp.

Re: Building a house in the South of Chile

Yes, the kits come as wall and roof panels with insulation sandwiched in between the exterior and interior skin. You might consider insulating the underfloor which is not included but can be added at the time of construction which is what I did. The windows are double paned glass. Being that the hom...

Re: Building a house in the South of Chile

I bought a cabana prefab kit from this company: http://www.construkit.cl. They also have houses in many sizes and designs available. Dealing with them was a very satisfactory and professional experience. My guest cabana is very comfortable, well insulated and well appointed. Construction took 3 days...

Re: Generator reccomndations

The Kipor I mentioned has wheels but it's really heavy, maybe 120 kilos or more. If you have help lifting it, it will easily fit in a pickup bed, though a trailer might be more practical.

Re: Generator reccomndations

Solar is definitely viable in the South. Mine is a six panel, twelve battery 3.5kw system which easily provides enough power for house lights plus refrigerator, washing machine, tv, power tools, etc. It can provide power for a week with no sun until I need to use the generator to charge the batterie...

Re: Generator reccomndations

I have a 12 year old Kipor 5kw diesel generator that originally was my only power supply until I installed a solar panel system a couple of years ago. It powered everything including power tools and now it charges the batteries when the sun doesn't shine for a week or two in winter. Still has amazin...

Re: Worth Getting Citizenship?

Does anyone know if having three passports from three different countries is possible or even legally permitted? I have two others now, don't really need the Chileno passport which would be the third but Chile is my principal country of residence now. I'm concerned, as others here have pointed out, ...

Re: Daylight Saving Time

It does make a difference if you talk to family members who live in another time zone. Sometimes it is 5 hours difference, sometimes 4 when their clocks change and then the much looked forward to 3 hours when our clocks change. It is the difference between staying up past the time you want to go to...

Re: Wanted: parcela

Yeah it's takes a while for sure but that's probably true for many infrastructure projects just about anywhere. I don't know when the projects I was referring to were first proposed but 25 of the 45 kilometers have been paved and the surveyors have been marking the remainder. When they do pave the l...

Re: Wanted: parcela

There are parcelas available near Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. There are some located very near Puerto Varas but they are the most expensive. There are also some better priced in the area North and West of El Tepual airport around Las Quemas and Los Muermos . Meets about all your requirements if y...

Re: chile's migration crisis

will be interesting to see how many of the haitens and Venezuelans are still here in say 5 years. I bet a large chunk of the haitens either go home or move on to another country. if Venezuela stabilizes, a good portion will go home also. might not happen right away, but if there are some positive s...
