Re: mud slide patagonia between chaiten and futa, destroys santa lucia

They are confirming one unidentified foriegner. Seems, 5 confirmed dead, with still 15 missing. Typicaly i dont put much stock in preliminary numbers, but there are only about 200 people that live there. We have not yet had any contact with friends and clients in the area, but communications have be...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

I said something similar to some chilean friends the other day. What some mid-level beurcrat in bejing does, is probably more important to chile's future than who gets elected on sunday and what they do. With a stroke of a pen, copper price soars or crashes; and, with it, whatever politician in chil...

mud slide patagonia between chaiten and futa, destroys santa lucia

A mud slide has destroyed a large part of the town of santalucia in the patagonia. It looks like 3 dead, 15 missing currently. http://www.latercera.com/noticia/dos-fallecidos-ocho-desaparecidos-tras-aluvion-villa-santa-lucia/ Santa lucia is a small town but is a major cross road in the patagonia. It...

Last time we had 6 forumites voting, this time 10!
Think a few forum members went to the beach too.

Which i find pretty in line with other foreigners i have talked to. Many did not go out for the first round, but are going to vote the second.

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

Hey we could have a suprise the other way too. Just an informal survey of friends and family i was suprised at what happened in the first round. A bunch of people that were hard core right voters, all pro- pinera or even kast, did things like went to the beach on the day of the election rather than ...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

In fact, as of today, the markets pretty much have returned to exactly where it was before the first round election. 2.25% today, 7.1% for the week. That 2.25% happened in like the last hour. https://www.df.cl/noticias/mercados/bolsa/anticipa-victoria-de-pinera-bolsa-anota-una-de-las-mayores-alzas-d...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

By the way, for those that have not been following, the stock market has suffering from schizophrenia since the first round. Dropped like 12%+, recovered about half I think. Some days it is up 2% in the morning, looses half a percent by the afternoon, and closes out up 2% in evening. Builders have b...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

Well, here we go. Round two this weekend. Even if you don't vote, you might want to stock up on some good stiff drinks for Sunday (alcohol sales are prohibited on election day in Chile). I have no idea where anything stands right now, other than the turn-out trends for second round elections tend to...

Re: Question of Temporary PENSIONER or FINANCIER visa for foreigners

Think you mean the "retirement and periodic income" visa, and that is been fully discussed for years on the forum. https://www.spencerglobal.com/chile-immigration-and-visas/13-chile-retirement-and-perodic-income-visa.html Typically however, $1,000 U.S. a month per person in the household is a safe a...

Re: 2017 election round two: will you vote?

I guess pinera made a phone call to mujica, as they spent a lot of time together when they were in office. Mujica actuely said some nice things about pinera in his book. http://www.pulso.cl/actualidad-politica/libro-confesiones-pepe-mujica-pinera-no-tan-derecha-no-facho-capitalista-conservador-claro...
