Re: Housing market situation

Then you have this stuff going on. Puerto Varas suspends building permits for all new high-rises, and the courts back them up:

Re: Housing market situation

There appears to be a flooding of cheap credit and banks appear to be “throwing “ money at the masses. In fact the hardest part of getting a loan seems to be the inexplainable wait time at every bank branch. I recently argued about this with my friend and then checked the OECD stats . Chile seems t...

Re: The Pope in Chile, 15 - 18th January 2018

Yeah... many Argentinians are pissed with the Pope because of many things that have to do politics and sending out the wrong messages... Kind of strange to have a Pope who is so earnestly and openly Marxist. That makes me not like him too much. Well, religion and communism don't get along because t...

Re: Housing market situation

Well, we have been having the 'is Chile's real estate market a bubble' conversation now for over a decade, including through the 2010 earthquake and the 2008 international mortgage crisis. Probably not a bubble. Then also, I suppose the point of a bubble is, no one sees it until it blows-up. If it i...

Re: Computer stores in the south like Frys

There are pile of little electronics stores around in the major cities. Kind of radio shacks, but depends on what you need.

yea, and I am not sure the Atacama Desert is what they have in mind.

Like the guy a few years ago that insisted we are hiding the chilean jungle from him.

Re: New Member Here

If I don't moderate, people complain that I am not moderating the forum.

If I moderate, people complain that I am censoring their speech.

I just went with the one that seems to generate the least amount of complaining.

Re: The Pope in Chile, 15 - 18th January 2018

It was kind of fun to watch him arrive yesterday. The word I would use to describe this pope is 'irreverent'. Is it even possible, by definition, for the pope to be irreverent? He landed, and promptly blew-off the all the government officials, to go hang-out with the kids and talk to the people behi...

The Pope in Chile, 15 - 18th January 2018

So, the Pope arrived in Chile. First trip by a pope in 30+ years. There is a national holiday declared for Santiago on the 16th, and the 17th for Temuco, and (I think) Antofagasta on the 18th. Now, they declared an official holiday for certain parts of the country, but expect everyone to use that as...
