Re: US IRS Form 90-22.1, do people file this?

food for thought. a friend of mine hired an accountant in the states to "help" with this. He got lucky and nothing happned, but the accountant was indited for embezzling clients money a few months later. do your homework, or fill it out yourself. Problem is a lot of folks call themselves "accountan...

Re: plumbing problem

Flushing it out is easy. Cut off the water to the water heater. Disconnect the inflow and outflow pipes. Connect a short hose to the inflow connection and let it feed from a bucket of strong vinegar. Connect also a short hose to the outflow and let it drain into the same bucket. Pump the stuff aroun...

Re: New Member

Welcome on here, no need to get slammed down like that in your first introduction. I am glad to see another young family and yes, I echo the sentiment that competent schooling is an issue that you have to consider from the beginning. Of course you are bilingual. Kudos for you being fluent in two com...

Re: American graduate moving to Chile to work for multinatio

I am quite sure the OP could wing it and say he is only a US citizen. That will probably benefit him if he has no long term plans to stay there. However, I think he may create all sorts of complications if he turns around after a while and says BTW I am a citizen and now I want the benefits associat...

Re: American graduate moving to Chile to work for multinatio

I am not an expert in Chilean citizenship. However, I know my American-born daughter is also a citizen of Australia and the Netherlands by birth because of her parents' dual nationalities. She did not have to 'opt in' or request it. Getting a Dutch passport was just a formality, not an application f...

Re: Leaving Chile

Andres,

If you had been fluent in Spanish/Chilean, would you have made the same choice of leaving or do you think you could have made things work for you within your intended time frame?

Re: Moving back to US

We arrived almost 4 years ago when our triplet girls were just shy of 2 - they are now approaching 6 and I am not pleased with the cultural aspects seeping into my kids brains - maybe if they were boys it would be alright. Lana, can you elaborate on what you mean with that? We are looking to move t...

Re: top elementary schools in Santiago for Spanish speakers?

John, I can't post a link but if you do a Google search which includes the following search terms: Colegio Huelquen, expat children and Danish, you will find an excellent review of Montessori Huelquen. If we were to move to Santiago, this would be my top choice hands down. We are eyeing the Vina are...

Re: Income Tax on Foreign Income

income source = your labor located in Chile

There is no foreign sourced income, just foreign originated payment which is not that relevant.

John Hyre summarized it very well in one sentence.

Re: Bachelet's education ministry in crisis

So if most Chileans get a sub par education, how come Chile is doing quite well? Is it just the natural resources that carry the economy? Most countries that have a workforce that consists of semi-literate zombies who refuse to take any responsibility (at least that is how I interpret the Chilean wo...

Re: Income Choices in Chile

Thanks for all the responses. I am all for good regulation. Just because I issue loans does not mean I am in the business of trying to foreclose or lose money. In fact, I have never either lost money or foreclosed on anybody - I also have to sleep at night. Every loan I have done has been closed wit...
