Re: Hi from Cape Town

Hi there! I recently moved to Chile, less than a month ago, and I'll be hanging around till January :) A little bit of myself, I was an exchange student from South Africa 10 years ago in Santiago, and working for the same organisation now as an intern, and staying again with my lovely Chilean famil...

Re: Bringing spices back to Chile

It also takes time - maybe about a year or two - to get used to the food here, as well as anywhere else. As your taste buds adjust, you start appreciating it a lot more. And since the nutrient content here is a lot better than, say, in Canada, your diet changes. For example, I've stopped drinking wi...

Re: Can you afford to live in Chile????

Would one European salary be enough for two people to live in Chile? If we come there with my girlfriend, we'll be able to work from afar and earn the equivalent of 1500€ a month, or something like 1.1 million pesos a month. Would it be realistic for both of us to live on that income, including ren...

Food in Chile is so tasteless...
Learn how to cook and your life will change forever. Ingredients you get at the ferias here are pretty awesome, and Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Arabic ingredients are available in Santiago.

Re: Buying a car for 12mil without a bank account

Any supporters for Toyota Rav4 ? As a guy who owned a lot of Toyota transportation devices in my life, I'd give this intimate piece of advice to anyone considering it: get yourself a good German-made men's multivitamin first and start taking it on a daily basis. I promise you, in about two weeks ti...

Re: Getting a Chilean Driving License

Thank you AT46, Britkid, Scandinavian and Frozen North, your comments regarding the color vision tests have been helpful to me. It seems, oddly enough, that the tests may vary considerably. I had a friend who recently took the exam, and I asked him to pay attention to the test, specifically for col...

Re: New member, but "old" reader

From what I have been told by highly experienced IT people who easily pull 6 figures in the US, the best they could get for a job offer was around 38k USD a year in Santiago. And to most Chileans in Santiago thats a "Really good" salary. I'm talking people with 15+ years experience, college degree,...

I know about the valle vistas, but I understand you need an account with a bank to get a valle vista BancoEstado issues vale vistas without an account there but if you bring over 5-6m, they will ask for documents explaining the funds' sources. That was what I was originally concerned about. I guess...

Re: Speed Limit in Urban Areas Now 50

Hey i would like to see some enforcment of minimum speeds, especially on route 5. I dont know how many times i have popped up over a hill, at 120 km an hour the speed limit, to have to hit the breaks or take evasive action The Chilean traffic rules actually ask you to slow down when getting to the ...
