Re: electric vehicles in chile

But I agree that the steadily tightening government environmental standards require a lot of additional investment in retooling factories, new materials etc. etc. which in the end causes more damage to the environment most probably compared to simply churning out the same old VW Golf or Toyota Corro...

Re: electric vehicles in chile

Prius increases pollution? Compared to what? Walking or cycling or taking the bus or the train maybe. But not compared to any other petrol or diesel car. Not a debate you can win. Each Prius contains over 18 kg of virgin nickel which was mined in Africa by Chinese government laborers. Africa doesn'...

No cobalt, no electric vehicles. https://seekingalpha.com/article/428353 ... kill-tesla
Given Glencore's rise to prominence on old KGB money, you can kinda see that the Russians decided to sell more oil first before selling more cobalt.

IMHO, the current obsession with eco-trivia is itself a denial of a harder reality.[/b]
Eco-trivia sells at a better mark-up, so... Plus, the whole eco-fearmongering makes a lot of people open up the wallet to consume even more as they've only one life to live.

He's onto something but I really hope he will not try to get elected again. His performance at the debates was a major source of vergüeza ajena.
Bang on. After watching this gas bag on TV I thought if he gets elected, I'm out of here.

Re: Health insurance when waiting for Cédula de Identidad

I just wondered whether it was possible to get health insurance after having submitted your VISA application (from within Chile, changing from a tourist visa), when you’re awaiting your Cedula. If so, what companies would you recommend? I had no problem buying health insurance from Cruz Blanca with...

Re: 723 chilean pesos to the dollar

Odd how the electricity tariff increases seem to be directly tied to the USD-CLP value, considering that around half of Chile's electricity comes from internal sources, hence not tied to international energy costs. The increased cost of LPG imported from Malaysia I can understand affecting tariffs,...

Re: cheapest easiest way to get a cell phone

I write this: You're probably familiar with the "boiling frog" story (let me know if you aren't, and I'll find a link). When it comes to cell phones, I'm like a frog who hasn't been sitting in the pot of water, while it's slowly being heated up. Then a few minutes later, I just happen to see this o...

They do, although I'm not sure what it's called here. Results vary greatly - from a complete mismatch in Sodimac at Estacion Central to an amazing 100% match in Lo Barnechea.

After a certain age you may find it difficult to join any private health plan.
I heard you can join up to age 65 and they drop you off at 75 no matter what. Is that correct?

Re: Correos Chile is horrible!

So you have to go to your dr. and get a prescription for the vitamins. So they have to write down on the prescription what the vitamins are and the dosage? I am curious, how much does your Dr. charge you for this service? I guess after the first time, they know what you needed. I bought some vitami...
