Re: Bubble when to burst

Friday 13th saw S&P500 set a new low record of intraday volatility in electronic trading. Over the previous 20 trading days, the average intraday deviation did not exceed 0.35% - an all time low. This renders useless any and all algorithmic trading and speculative strategies. Not only the day-to-day...

Re: The Trump Administration

Americans are about to leave the Middle East but will remain in Israel, which will become a regional player, not a global one. The US will also become a regional power and part of a broader anglosaxon union, although the phantom pains of their amputated globalist ambitions will torment them for a wh...

Chile doesn't seem to support agriculture on a national level that I [once] would have expected from a country with such a large agricultural base.
If you mean government subsidies to deplete soil by growing corn that gets converted to car fuel, than maybe it's a good thing.

Re: Thoughts on the State of Europe

I think the GDP rather than PPP metric is more relevant to how a country exerts its strength internationally. PPP ranking you posted is an odd mix of local purchasing power combined with overall population, I don't see how it's that relevant to the questions of Russia's power or strength in the int...

Re: Thoughts on the State of Europe

GDP PPP is a size-of-the-country metric but even there it's below Germany and closer to Brazil or Indonesia. For GDP PPP per capita it's around the 50th place. Russia's economy is the sixth largest in the world and it's military is the second biggest and strongest in the world. What more is there t...

A country with GDP of Spain or NYC. (Space Cat)[/i] Wow, thanks, I had no idea.I genuinely would have put Russia yes far behind US/China/EU, but I would have thought they would be more towards Germany or Japan sized economy, given the higher population. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countri...

Re: The Trump Administration

The US withdrawal from Syria means the start of a "hybrid" civil war on its own territory. The pre-election terrorist attack in Vegas opens the information battle that's going to go on for the next month or so. In November several states are holding elections of governors and legislators that will h...

Re: The Trump Administration

Until recently the grandiose capabilities of the US military and information warfare apparatus lay at the heart of the dollar strength, underpinned by the US ability to change government in any country by brutal or hybrid force. In Syria Russia has demonstrated the inability of the United States to ...
