Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

So, for those who have lived through the last 1.5 years in Chile, which is certainly one of the most trying periods in the Nations history, I’m wondering whether those who relocated to Chile from other countries still believe this was a good decision and still have hope for a positive future in Chil...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

Interesting. For those whose cities were affected by looting, arson, etc. during the social uprising last year (Including the metro burnings in Santiago etc.), have authorities began or made any significant progress repairing damage to bindings and infrastructure or is everything at a standstill wit...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

Sorry guys, I should have been more specific. I do realize the Mapuche conflict has been ongoing and is largely confined to the area in and near Araucania. What I meant was related to the large scale rioting, looting and arson (violencia) that was seen in Santiago and other major cities during the s...

Re: The Chile Economy, Social Crisis and Virus Impact

Hi all - This is a slight departure from the most recent comment, but I'm wondering if those in Chile currently can comment on the degree of social disturbance and unrest (not Covid, but the distinctly Chilean protests and related arson, etc.) in different regions. Clearly, this was well documented ...

Haha. I think we'll probably avoid that adventure...I'm not sure the wife would be thrilled with being kicked off someone's land on the anniversary trip. It would, however, make a great story around a fire, I bet.

RunetheChookcha, was that a Hike that you did through the hills? If so, was there a trail/sendero or were you literally bushwacking?

Re: Traveling to Casablanca, Quintay, Cachagua and Zapallar - Recommendations?

That sounds like a good idea. What's a range of a reasonable fee/tarifa to hire such a taxi driver for a 1/2 or full day?

I've done this before (for an all day trip to Elqui Valley), but always wondered if what the guy charged was fair! In my recollection, it was about 65.000 CLP for a full day.

Re: Traveling to Casablanca, Quintay, Cachagua and Zapallar - Recommendations?

Haha. Yes, I find the wine tours a bit overdone and expensive myself...we might do one, but after that, we'll aim for consumption ;) Thanks for the heads up on that vineyard. I'll definitely look into it and maybe make a reservation at the restaurant there. Now...how to hire someone to carry our *ha...

Traveling to Casablanca, Quintay, Cachagua and Zapallar - Recommendations?

Hey all, Its been a while since I've been active here. I've lived and traveled a good deal in Chile before and my spouse and I are returning to Chile again for 1 week in December to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. After celebrating our honeymoon in Chile, it felt like the natural thing to do. We'...

Re: Where do you live in Chile and Where would you PREFER to live?

Lots of great responses here. I appreciate everyone's input. I think the ideas on "livability" (e.g., a decent market for food, decent hospital within a reasonable distance, etc.) are well worth everyone's attention. The thought about the small cities getting pounded with crowds in the summer time (...

Re: Where do you live in Chile and Where would you PREFER to live?

Great responses. I hope we hear from others. For what it's worth, while I don't live in Chile now: 1. Lived in Valparaiso in a prior life. Loved the people, art, ocean, energy in the streets...and looking out ar the sparkling cerros each night. Did not love pickpockets, lack of trash collection and ...

Where do you live in Chile and Where would you PREFER to live?

Hey all, Its been a while since my last post, but my family and I continue to have connections in Chile and continue exploring the idea of a spending a significant part of our lives in the Country. To get a better idea of where current members of this form currently live, I would love to have as man...
