Re: Speed Limit in Urban Areas Now 50

Re: Hidden earthquake damage, apartments in Chile

by the way, for anyone that is interested in fixing major cracks in concrete the right way, they do sell at sodimac tubes of concrete anchor cement. It is kind of pricey fix for smaller cracks, but it is stronger than the original concrete. Many (nearly 60) years ago I got my first experience with ...

Re: Hidden earthquake damage, apartments in Chile

so, for a very long time I have had this theory that there is a lot of hidden earthquake damage around chile that has not really shown-up yet, in older apartment buildings that were built before the 2010 earthquake. I would suspect that there could be much more hidden damage than just water leaks i...

Re: All telephones imported into Chile must be registered or will not work

No worries though, Entel can rent you a 5+ year old phone at at an absurd rate http://personas.entel.cl/PortalPersonas/appmanager/e...

They are all mall crawlers. I guess that a common garden variety of 4x4 should be sufficient for that. :) I had always wanted to get an FJ6. I don't know how they equip them for Chile, but if I remember correctly, here they are equipped with the 4 liter engine which is a huge gas guzzler.... I deci...

Re: FATCA repeal introduced to the house of reps

why would anyone, out of choice, want to be a US citizen ? To become great again? :) When was the last time ? Prior to November 9, 2016. :) Your perception bias is showing again, John. Exactly one minute before 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time (18:30 UTC) on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dealey Pla...

Re: Renewing US passport

Okay. I think I'll go to my appointment at the embassy, see what they say/if they can make any guarantees it will be ready on time. And then if they can't, I'll politely thank them, leave with my current almost-full passport and renew upon return. Don't forget to get the book with extra pages so yo...

I suppose if there is no lake nearby you can just land on a beach and fill up with sea water? Everywhere in Chile is next to the sea. Or maybe there is some problem with sea water? I wish it was that easy. These planes are all very large and quite heavy (especially when loaded with a lot of water),...

Re: Fires

Over planting pine to increase production per hectare always seemed strange to me, I can't believe it and the eucalyptus (which naturally burns to reproduce) are strange crops to grow in an arid region......... Agreed.... paticularly since eucalyptus uses an inordinate amount of water to grow and i...

Re: Fires

576,000 hectares burned Well there sure was plenty of good dry wood available to burn. When I was down there over a year ago, there were miles and miles and miles of dead pine forest (that appeared to have been dead for a good while) that had been killed by some disease or parasite that would have ...
