Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

It looks like the odds of your child, if they are healthy and without specific conditions, dying from COVID is probably about 1 in 100,000 (this is based on known deaths of children with COVID in Chile, UK and US that I looked up). That´s a very rough estimate, but at least probably at least a bette...

Re: Chilean Politics

Right, so they agreed after my post yesterday that there will be a primary or consultation with public participation of some sort, but it looks like the specifics of that incuding the timing are not yet decided. This article has a good summary: https://www.t13.cl/noticia/elecciones-2021/politica/con...

Re: Chilean Politics

Yasna Provoste has officially confirmed she will be a Presidential candidate. 2 minute video of her announcing: https://twitter.com/CHVNoticias/status/1418618136492904456 As far as I can tell (which may be wrong as it´s not very clear at the moment and I haven´t looked into this in depth so I may ha...

Re: Chilean Politics

So Boric - Provoste - Sichel - Kast in the first round? The other question here is whether La Lista del Pueblo, who got 16% of the vote in the constitution election, will have a candidate. They seem to be sort of far left and apolitical at the same time, if that makes any sense. Latest news: Jorge ...

Re: Chilean Politics

So Boric - Provoste - Sichel - Kast in the first round? So just following my earlier post I`ve been reading a few articles today to bring myself up to speed. I think the centre left (establishment left) coalition of Unidad Constituyente y Nuevo Trato-PL still has to choose between candidates that i...

Re: Chilean Politics

Yes glad that Pamela Jiles appears to be out, this is based on her own statements. Has said she was never really interested in the first place, which might be true, although is close to a contradiction of previous statements. She might have been just try to get some fame to help her post political c...

Re: Chilean Politics

I was aware of his Palestinian connections, but didn't realize that Recoleta was a Palestinian area. Anyway, I think we can move on from Jadue, he should be mostly out of the picture from now on. Does anyone know the latest on what's going on with the centre left, ex-concertacion deciding their Pres...

Re: Chilean Politics

For the results by comuna, go to here: servelelecciones.cl and click on "en Chile" and you can then show results by regions and even individual comunas. However you don't see wild differences from one region to the next. Briones results in the RM are closely tied to how rich the area is, he was only...

Re: Chilean Politics

Another black eye for professional posters who said with confidence - Jadue y Lavin... Maybe, on the other hand, I think if the votes would have been held in June when the surveys were done Jadue and Lavin might would have won. Anyone who confidently declared the result has been caught out, but if ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

The case numbers coming down is good, given that COVID is more powerful in the winter and, at least where I live, the last few weeks have been easily the coldest of the year. OK, it's middle of winter so no huge surprise there, but temperatures have been a bit below the average even for mid winter. ...

Re: Chilean Politics

so, as boric and Jadue were debating last night, Cuba was falling apart ..... but here was their bullshit reactions to it, https://www.emol.com/noticias/Nacional/2021/07/11/1026455/jadue-boric-cuba-debate-primarias.html Re " their bullshit" - it is a bit unfair to group the two of them together on ...

Re: Chilean Politics

Boric and Jaba the Hut calling it a political assination, This is very unfair. I mean, think about it. Jabba the Hut: ---loaned out money to Han Solo to collect at a higher rate ---had a large business presence and built some sort of mansion/palace where all sorts of traders turned up to deal ---ke...
