Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Our town in the past has been way quieter in phase 1 because many of the stores and businesses are closed. Easily way under half the people of phase 2 or pre COVID situation.

I think the quarantine was probably the right decision. It may have to be the last one, however.

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Thanks for the news on the variants. Makes sense and would perhaps be the main reason why cases have not declined as the vaccines have been rolled out. This is probably the missing piece in the jigsaw that I was going on about earlier, the explanation why cases always seem to be on the high end of t...

Re: Solar PV in Chile

Thanks for the news. https://globalsolaratlas.info is a great resource for location specific info. Click anywhere on the map and it shows you how much solar power you would get per day or year. Unfortunately, it doesn´t work south of latitude 45. At my location, I get 1730KWH/KWp per year. Here are ...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I signed up here https://mevacuno.gob.cl/ an it says it will email me when I need to go and get my second dosis. This is worth doing if you have had 1st dosis only of AstraZeneca since the date for your second dosis is currently unknown. I was given a date of 12 weeks later initially, but it was the...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

I spoke to a doctor friend this weekend and she said the % of vaccinated people going to UCI because of COVID is very low. Good news.. I'm afraid it is much too high https://www.minsal.cl/63-de-los-hospitalizados-en-uci-no-se-ha-vacunado-contra-el-covid-19/ 37% of all UCI patients are vaccinated (6...

Re: Solar PV in Chile

Gringlais, yes, we have CGE. Remember some solar systems won't work in a grid power cut, even if it is sunny! Make sure you specify what you want if you ever get one. Admin, if we owned the house, I would expand the system and/or add a solar hot water heater. I won´t do it now because we are renting...

Re: Solar PV in Chile

We have just completed one year exactly today since we turned on the solar panel system. See post of 15th October on previous page for info on system specs. During that time (6th June 2020 - 6th June 2021): We used 3800kWH of electricity and at a grid cost of 140pesos/kWh that would have cost us 532...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

well, the thing that I keep in mind, is so far our numbers are not even coming close to the neighbors. I am not giving the lockdowns any credit for that. colombia just passed 30,000 cases a day, with a 50 million population. Argentina is still over 30,000 cases a day, but with 2.6 times the populat...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

could be the winter weather a factor, but it has been quite mild so far where most of the population in Chile is, we didn't even turn any heating on yesterday even in the evening which was quite unusual for June in the RM The evidence seems to suggest that the vaccines are working and that most of t...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

Just had a look at the number of cases per comuna in places with high vaccination rates, the ones you both mentioned above and compared it to the comunas with lower vaccination rates In all places I looked at (RM), case numbers are rising or stable, not declining in recent days and weeks High vaccin...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

hmm, perhaps I will consider Brazil game schedules when making travel plans. Do you think this fervor to Brazilian football is continent wide? Are there any other sports events that would keep Chileans home and glued to their sets? You only need to consider game schedules of Brazil matches if you a...

Re: coronavirus (COVID-19) in Chile

This will be interesting. Are they allowing crowds into the grounds? I guess we don't know yet. I actually went to Brazil for the 2014 world cup. They are crazy about football over there. Another level vs Chile or European countries. We arrived at an airport while a Brazil game was going on, got to ...
